Hello folks! I have a Taurus PT1911 and am very happy with, except that it shoots low about a few inches. It has the Heine 3 dot sights. I am looking for an adjustable rear sight for it. I have googled it and cannot find anything. Will "generic" rear adjustable sights fit this gun? I am looking for a drop in sight. Help and direction would be greatly appreciated.

the heine straight 8's on the early model guns used a proprietary dovetail and nobody made replacement sights. perhaps something has changed in the past year or so, but if not, you're going to have to get creative. or change your load. It's my only complaint with the pt1911. well, that and the finish isn't very durable. But those are the only 2.

Thanks for your response. I have also considered the load of my reloads. I am actually going to test my loads of 180gr and 230 bullets to see if there is any difference in POI.

you could also black out the front dot any try to draw a new dot lower down. Or maybe find a adjustable rear with a really big dovetail and have your notch cut larger to accept it. or maybe find a different height front sight. like I said, you may need to get creative.

I just arrived from the range during my lunch break. I brought 8 rounds of 180gr. Hornady XTP and 230 gr. FMJ reloads. Suprisingly, at 7 and 10 yards, they were hitting POI. OK, my loads are right, so I wouldn't need a new rear sight. It always feels good when your gun performance well.:)

So what happened to being low? Did different ammo correct the problem? My PT1911 hits POA but I don't have the 8's on any of my other firearms so they drive me nuts. I'd love to find a replacement.
Are you using this method:

I have the Heine 3 dot sight. I cover the target with the front sight. I have always thought that you had to put the target above the front sight, but the former method seems to work best for me on all of my pistols. I feel that covering the bullseye with the front sight would work well with anybody becuase one way or another, ever so slightly, we may pull the muzzle down when pulling on the trigger.
