I have been very impressed with PT1911, this is my 5th 1911, and I have had Spring WWII 1911A1, Colt 1911 WWI, Kimber Stainless II, and Rock Island 1911, and I am very impressed by the looks and feel of the Taurus PT1911... I don't know what it is but the looks is just awesome... maybe it is the Heine sights, maybe it is the blued finish... I donno. The gun feels very solid in my hand, and extremely tactical in appearance.

I have added a SureFire weapon light made for beretta M9 (it also fits 1911), and I got rid of the pressure switch because it interferes with the grip because sometimes the light will go off if I grip the gun too lightly.

I also added a pair of Sim Gunner grips.

One thing I noticed about the PT 1911, is that the hammer spring is kinda weak... I have not shot the gun yet but has anyone had any problems of primers not going off due to the weak hammer spring?

And is the barrel stainless also? It is kinda thin but it is probably stainless.

Retro, I just got mine last weekend, my first 1911. I'm not sure re: the hammer spring, since I have nothing to compare it to. I put over 100 rds thru it Sat., not a single hiccup. I thought the same thing about the barrel, does look thin.

yeah, I went back and compared to the Colt 1911, the PT1911 hammer spring is very weak, and I doubt that the gun will fire with surplus WWII .45 ammos. It should have no problem with modern commerical ammos because the primers seemed more sensitive to striking. I also noticed that the grip safety spring is a bit stiff, and I have to grip the gun very hard to disengage it, which is very different from Kimber and Spring and Colt. In addition, the trigger pull is not as crisp as the kimber or Colt trigger, and but I guess, a little polish work will solve those problems.

Retro, the gun will fire hard primers. I have shot probably 200 surplus .45's through mine with no problem, and around 850 rounds total with no problem.

thanks for the reports guys, and thanks for the pics, i love pics and yeah that is pretty darn tactical looking. i had one of those rails on my beretta 92 and it worked out great. i had a m6 on there instead though. again it looks great. please give us a good range report soon!

what do you use for a holster?i put a much smaller light rail on mine and made every holster i own worthless
bladetech has a bucnh of holsters out that are exepting gun light combo's check them out they might have something to square you away!

Heine sights are hand-made by Mr. Heine, is that right? I read about Heine's gunsmith work on 1911 a few months ago, it was in a story posted on SureFire-sponsored Gun Magazine... apparently, he has a client waiting list that will stretch out to 5-8 years of wait time.

These Heinie sights are made by Taurus, but are licensed to them by Dick Heinie. THey are Heinie sights, because Heinie has control over QC and implementation (it is his name, after all), but they are not hand made by Heinie. It is worth noting that Taurus likes straight-8 sights well enough that they are putting them on pretty much all of their autos. I can see why, because I really like mine.

Input??

People are raving about this gun, but (surprisingly) it is from a company that has produced some questionable quality in recent years.

My question is, does it live up to its press?

Slvr Surfr- the mount is a surefire adaptor made for 92FS/M9, and it fits the 1911 rather well (I removed the pressure switch because it hinders my grip). You can get it from any online stores that carries the surefire combat flashlights.

1911

I to have been looking for a 1911 to install a 1913 rail on.
You can get the rail from NOVAKSIGHTS.COM for $59.95 plus $8.00 shiping and handaling or $75.00 installed well good luck

yeah, I also toyed around with the idea of installing a permanent rail to 1911 but sometimes I would prefer the simple look without the rail, and hence the add-on adaptor was perfect for me because I can take it off anytime.

Delta Charlie, I've now put 500 rds through my new PT1911, without a hiccup. Although it's my first 1911, I've been nothing but pleased with it thus far. I know Taurus had some negative history with some of their products, but if you looked hard enough, almost every maker of 1911's has some bad press, even the high $$$$ ones.

Great! Good for you man, hope you continue to enjoy a problem free pistol :)
When you get to 5,000 rounds without a gun-related problem, I'll be really impressed ;)

You speak truth. Which is why I stay clear of the higher $$ ones.
