I bought my wife a Taurus "Judge" for X-mas and when shooting .45 rounds the gun is consistantly shooting a bit to the left compared to the sights.

The gun was used and no instructions were in the box for the front fiber optic sight, but it looks as if you could move this front site side to side, if you could get the round fiber optic plastic piece pulled back and out of the way as it looks as if there's a screw underneath to loosen from the barrel to enable it to be moved left or right.

I just don't want to screw something up trying to get the orange plastic piece to slide back and out of the way of the screw I need to get to,

Any help would be great. Also, both me and the wife enjoy this very cool gun.

i dont believe the front sight can be moved on this model. every photo ive seen appears its merely screwed into the barrel.
as a fixed sight the user is supposed to either use kentucky windage or widen the read sight slot. but please, call taurus and get GOOD info from the maker.

No offense intended here, but how experienced a shooter is your wife? And how many other experienced shooters have you asked to shoot this firearm to verify the problem?

The reason I ask is that shooting consistently to one side or another is often user-error, not equipment error. There is a chart that gets posted in many of these threads detailing what the shooter is doing wrong to cause the rounds to hit the target at certain areas.

You just joined the forum today, and this is your first post, so there's no way for us to know your experience level in this regard. Thus, I must respectfully assume you are relatively new, at least to the firearm in question.

Don't go messing with the sights until you are absolutely sure the problem is not in the user. User-error can often be corrected with proper instruction and practice. Bugger up the sights and you could be going down a long road of frustration.

I believe these are targets you were referring to.

Sorry, my first attempt at an attachment and I don't know how to show a preview.

If you really need to adjust fixed sights, you can file one side of the rear sight groove out slightly to drive point of impact a bit to one side.
But the best things are to make sure it's not the shooter, then try different ammunition, then send it back to the factory if adjustment is needed. I ran into this with a Ruger GP-100 last year so back it went (and it came back REPAIRED!). Different ammo might be the ticket. I've seen different brands, even with the same bullet weight and published velocity, have 4" of windage difference so it's always worth a shot.
Elevation is usually an easier fix as the front sight can just be filed down to bring point of impact up. But with fiber-optic front sight... that's probably gonna turn into a factory fix too. :(

I'm not an expert by no means, but me and my wife can plink down a can or two, she already has a Taurus 357 and she can do pretty well with that, I have a Browning 22 semi auto pistol and I can hit stuff pretty good with it as well.

I know what you are saying about making sure the shooter's doing his/her job correctly before trying to tinker with the sights, but since it's always hitting to the left CONSISTANTLY, I think the sights could be off, I may be wrong. Now I know I'm among hardcore gun enthusiasts here but is there really alot more to hitting the target than lining up the sights and pulling the trigger with the least amount of bobble while pulling the trigger?? BTW, we also were pulling the hammer back and using it in a single action manner to enable the best accuracy possible and still always shot about 6" to the left from about 30' away from the target. After about 20-30 shots fired using .45 ammo, not one hit to the right of the target, we did learn to compensate a little bit and were able to break a few bottles before we left for home though.

What about screwing in the barrel tighter? That will cause the sight to rotate and you'll need to point more to the right to align it correctly. But don't know how Taurus barrels attach -- are they simply threaded, are they pinned, or what?

ok wow, i just picked up a NEW judge the other day, and upon close examination of the front sight it looks like its positioned more on the left than right side, havent shot it yet but im assuming it would make it shoot to the left....so SAME PROBLEM!?!! what the heck...
