The new July 2018 issue of NRA American Rifleman has a snazzy full page advertisement on the back cover for a (well-known, unnamed here, brand) of vehicle gun safe, specially designed for use between seat and console, with security cable and electronic RFID quick-open feature. The main paragraph begins with the sentence,

"Keep your handgun by your side and quickly accessible - even when you travel."

Ah, but down at the bottom left of the page in tiny hurt-my-bifocal-old-eyes size typeface, is the fine print:

"IMPORTANT: Do not store loaded firearms in any safe, vault or lock box. Follow local, state and federal laws ... "

I wonder who they are marketing this item to?

Just CYA in case of an ND. "Accessible and by your side", to me, means in a good holster. If I am in the vehicle, I don't want to have to fumble with a lockbox for access. If I have do leave a gun in a vehicle, unattended, I want theft to require more than a decent pair of bolt cutters. YMMV.

I'm only curious... how do you secure your weapon should you be required to leave it in the vehicle?

Locked in the trunk, out of sight. Center console and glove box are the first two places for snatch and grab of valuables, and a safe tucked between the seats screams "something valuable inside".

However, I try VERY carefully to not have to leave a firearm in a vehicle. I understand that it is sometimes unavoidable.
