Advice for a new bow hunter

Now now we got the poddles with antlers, the Coues got to be the smallest. Goes with more heat smaller deer. Hunting Coues with a rifle is hard enough, with a bow it's a challenge.

Yes couse deer are some tiny little things. Average buck is about 120 pounds on the hoof correct? Never bow hunted them as, like you said, rifle was hard enough. Closest I got to any was 120 yards and even then they were busting us. Basically, imagine a whitetail with sensory overload and you will have the couse deer. Half the body, twice the senses!!

Try these little suckers on any exotic game ranch in TX if you want a hard archery hunt. My buddy Mark finally took one after 6 trips worth of trying. A large black buck antleope weighs in at 70#'s

At 55lbs, make sure you know the vitals, a hit in the shoulder blade won't do, so know you have to hit behind that.

This all depends on where you are hunting. Our wimpy Texas Hill Country deer can be dropped on the spot by driving through a shoulder blade. I pull 55# and use 100gr Montec G5 broadheads and busted a shoulder blade last week on a doe that was just past broadside, starting to quarter away. Broke a rib going in, popped both lungs, and hammered the far side shoulder blade. She didn't go far at all.

The rest of your note is dead on.

If you travel a lot try to find clubs that have out door ranges, I spend a good deal of the summer going to our local clubs out door range practicing shooting at different yardages and from different angles. It really helps with your yardage estimates. And if they have 3-d targets its even better.
