Bersa Thunder UC or Firestorm Mini 9mm. SA/DA, midweight, 13 rounds, and a great value at ~$330-$350.

Well now, what's yet another opinion? :D

Since you asked, and based upon the OP, I'd say (in addition to the CZ offerings; the P-01 is killer) take a look around for a clean, used 3rd gen S&W. I'm partial to the 6906, and I'm hardly alone in that opinion.

if you are set firmly in the $500.00 price range, and are looking at new handguns i would suggest the following:

CZ 75B- Around $550.00 here
Beretta 92-Around $550.00 here
Ruger P series-Around $400.00-$450.00 range

all are DA/SA, all can be had in 9mm, and all but the Ruger have steel or aluminum frames.

If you look for used handguns, then you may be able to find some Sigs in that price range as well as some lowered prices on several others that have been mentioned already.

Dont be afraid to buy used CZ's and Beretta 92's. I bought my Beretta 92F(probably built in mid-80's) 3 years ago. It replaced a G19 and G23C that i bought new as my first pistols. They operated fine but in my hands, were very inaccurate and i just couldnt get used to the feel of them. I bought them because thats all i had heard of and thats all everyone recommended to me. Note that i didnt buy the guns because I liked them.

So i sold both of them to my buddy and picked up a used 92F for $400. I dont know how many rounds it had seen but ive easily put 3000 through since ive owned it and not a single problem. In my hands, my Beretta puts up better groups at 25yds than the Glocks did at 10.

I'm not the prowed owner of a Sig P226 :)

I whent to the three gun shops yesterday, and at the last gun shop I had to make a difficult decision between a CZ 75 and the Sig P226. Both felt great in my hand, but I liked the triger pull of the Sig a little better. I'm going to take it to the range in a few hours to try it out.

So, my next question is where can I get and extra clip for my new sig P226?

Try CDNN:

$33 for factory Sig mag with phosphate finish: http://www.cdnninvestments.com/sig2269mm15p.html
$19 for factory Sig mag with tactical bottom (not sure if these are true factory Sig): http://www.cdnninvestments.com/sig2269mm15w.html
Haven't tried these, marked LE but civilian legal (maybe someone else can verify):
$29 for LE factory Sig mag: http://www.cdnninvestments.com/sig2269mm15l.html

I also found Mec-Gar mag to be of very good quality in general $26 for 18rd: http://www.cdnninvestments.com/2269mm18anma.html

Beretta 92 stainless on alloy single/double 9mm

I dunno why you'd dislike DAO for a range gun. I mean, a true DAO, I can see. But a polymer "fakey" DAO, like in a polymer gun, makes for a good range trigger.

Whenever I cock the hammer on a DA/SA, I feel like I'm cheating. And yet, I almost always cheat. :) With a DAO, you can't cheat on your practice.

If the G19 feels too light, then try the G17L. It's wicked fun at the range, and it's got a nice muzzle balance to it. The Beretta 92 is nice, if it fits your grip. It's definitely a soft-shooting gun that's great for rapid fire and long range sessions.

if you can find a sig p6 they are great guns. single stack mag(can be hard to find) DA-SA trigger and a thin grip cost is under 500, will be closer to 400, there on the market now for three years. a used 226 or 229 will be close or over what you want to spend. S&W has lots of DA-SA 9mm, you should be able to find some in you price range.

You are big believer in opening worm cans, aren't you! Here's a thread which could extend to Obama's Kenyan "manger." Anyhow, get the Glock 19. Superb gun. Very accurate, little recoil, great price.

Stick with the Glock 19. One of the best guns ever made! Its the perfect size for CCW most of the time.

The Glock trigger is hardly DAO. With a little help the Glock trigger can be improved greatly. It'll still feel horrible and gritty during dry fire practice, but under pressure that all disappears and the trigger works well when its actually needed. It deos smooth out a bit.

Also check out the Glock 23 and 32. Same frame as the 19, more power.

Thanks for all the suggestions, but as I posted earlier I got a used Sig P226 :) and love it so far! But this is only my first handgun, there will be more to come in the future... as save enough money for them, lol

I too would recommend CZ. I have a p-01 among other guns...sigs and kahr's but my CZ is my favorite!
