I want to buy the wife a 9mm handgun.

I want a full sized gun, ie not a shortened barrel or grip frame. But I want a single stack...

Wow. I see 3 "I want"s all in a row. Didn't see a single "she wants" anywhere. Anyone see a problem here?

@welding rod

consider walther ppq-- great trigger come sin 4" and 5" barrel for price of a Glock--feels great--my wife and her arthritic hands love it Just MHO--also consider the new sig p320 full sized--it is nice but it is not a Walther ppq

happy safe shooting

by the way-- best to le t her hold and work the gun(s) you are considering-- I have learned NOT to buy my wife any gun she has not tried out(or held) just to be sure it fits her and she loves it--otherwise-- you end up with new guns--for YOURSELF--LOL

@welding rod

we use d glocks because they go bang --period-- I know what you mean by da/sa BUT

we tend to carry the guns loaded but not chambered-- thus once we rack the slide--they are sa--

if you are interested look at the beretta 92 fs italian or the cz 75 or 85 B we LOVE ours and they are reliable fun to shoot they are not too pricey

also you can go to CZshop.com for SA only CZ-- again JMHO

"the best safety is a finger off the trigger"

I went thru this a couple of years ago....its no so much the grip size...but can she RACK the slide.....Smaller gun = More Spring

Zastava M70a, single action only but very thin single stack full size 9mm and cheap at only $220 new.

Let her decide. Many ranges rent guns and the choice should be hers. Maybe you have shooting buddies that will let her try a few.

I wish I could remember the source, and the exact wording, but a signature line I can identify with goes something like: "You don't pick out her sewing machines or _______ or _________. What makes you think you should pick out her gun?"

My wife agrees completely and I'm eternally grateful I learned this particular lesson early on.

Number one she needs to pick it out. Just tell her you're buying her one then let her pick.

As for a suggestion the Ruger SR9 has about the thinest grip I've encountered for a double stack. My wife absolutely loves her and ours have been 100% reliable.

Ditto... On both points. SR9 is about as slim as one of my single stacks.

Funny, my current sig line is actually...

(boxed nicely here in case I change it after today)

If you're not picking out your wife's sewing machine, hair dryer, slow cooker, or shoes, why are you picking out her gun?

I'll second the CT9.
300 is a good deal, although...

Both buds and grabagun have the TP9 for $400.
That's a steal. $749 msrp for $400

A 39 series S&W is great choice too.

I echo - of course let her choose what is comfortable for her, and try lots of different frames and models.

On the recommendation of my local range owner, my daily carry is a CZ Rami. It is very comfortable for smaller hands and also easily concealable, along with the Kahr previously mentioned. Yes, we ladies have to think about accessorizing, and this one will easily fit into most purses.

That being said, I'm much more accurate and prefer my 1911, although that is also a Colt compact size. The heavier gun is just easier to handle and feels more secure in my hands.

My wife shot every 9mm they had at the rental counter, and chose a M&P 9c. Very comfortable for her to shoot. Later on, she got her CCW permit, and suddenly developed a liking for my Shield 9. She got her own for her birthday the following month.

For a range gun, she loves a RIA 1911 Tactical in 9mm.
