From the September '08 American Rifleman on the new XDm:

The XD is not single-action, it is not double-action, it's a striker fired semi-automatic pistol. Single-action and double-action are terms that are not so much dated--they are perfectly adequate for describing the trigger action of guns with hammers--as inappropriate and confusing in describing the workings of striker-fired pistols like the Glock, XD and Smith and Wesson M&P.
What about the Taurus 24/7? It is a striker fired semi-automatic pistol and I would definitely call it single-action; of course it has that second chance double action feature, but normally it is wholly single action, no Glock type trigger to be found.

Why is what the Glock type action is called shrouded by un-terminology and people constantly having to explain in verbose terms how it "isn't really double action or single action"

Let's just call it trigger action.

I think the author is just bored and has nothing important to write about... just seems knit-picky to me.
...of all the posts to make that comment on.....anyhoo, not terribly bored, just home with the kids while the wifey is grocery shopping. And people having to explain the "Glock Action" all the time is rather annoying.

I was told the Glock is about 40% cocked. The M&P and XD's are pretty much cocked all the way from what I have read. That would make them single action.

If I remember, Glocks are allowed in SSP and XD's are SSP for IDPA.

No one else is bugged by the lack of a proper term for Glock/XD type trigger actions?

I still think trigger action sounds good.

XD's are single action they are cocked completely. With the Taurus 24/7 pro I had it was basicly double action pistol without a decocker. You chamber the round just like with say a ruger p95. Your first pull of the trigger is single action. If the gun fires the next trigger pull is single action again because the slide cocked the striker. Now if you pull the trigger in single action and it doesn't fire, next pull is double action unless you rack the slide. Works like the ruger without a decocker. Mark

....again the verbose explanation continues, no offense railroader

yes

but there are some people who just don't know either. I see nothing wrong with the explanations of the glock, MP and XD actions. I certainly learn something here about every day, some of it you can take to the bank some of it you can flush down the ol toilet...:neener:
