From the September '08 American Rifleman on the new XDm:
Why is what the Glock type action is called shrouded by un-terminology and people constantly having to explain in verbose terms how it "isn't really double action or single action"
Let's just call it trigger action.
What about the Taurus 24/7? It is a striker fired semi-automatic pistol and I would definitely call it single-action; of course it has that second chance double action feature, but normally it is wholly single action, no Glock type trigger to be found. The XD is not single-action, it is not double-action, it's a striker fired semi-automatic pistol. Single-action and double-action are terms that are not so much dated--they are perfectly adequate for describing the trigger action of guns with hammers--as inappropriate and confusing in describing the workings of striker-fired pistols like the Glock, XD and Smith and Wesson M&P.
