Advice from fellow patriots on a personal carry weapon

I'll chime in with my thanks for your service to our republic.

I realize that the my input is "outside the box" from your original question, but I thought that I would offer an alternative.

I am a fan of the 1911 platform. That said, I recently bought a SA XD45 Service. I was never into "plastic guns" and Glocks just never felt comfortable compared to the 1911. (Not a knock on Glocks, just not comfortable ergonomics for me.)

A few months ago I picked up an XD at a gun show and was amazed at the comfort level of the double stack .45.

I thought about it a lot, and still having an unused pistol purchase permit, I confirmed the comfort level at the next gun show and proceeded to buy a SA XD45 Service with the thumb safety. I have put several hundred rounds through it and its "pointability" factor for me is outstanding. If you decide to give it a try, I will say that I am more comfortable with it and the trigger is smoother after putting a few hundred rounds through it.

Although it's a bit fatter than a 1911, the extra capacity and comfort level has me sold on this platform. I usually don't get too excited about a firearm to want to buy another one, but in this case I'm seriously considering buying a Bi-Tone Service model with a thumb safety. As a 1911 fan, I'm used to the thumb safety and just feel more comfortable having that extra measure of safety.

If SA ever comes out with a compact model with the thumb safety, they will get a bit more of my money. :)

Just thought I'd throw out something else to consider.

I also looked at Sig and bought a Kimber (bad for me-never again). While I liked the Sig, I just could not get comfortable with it. I checked out an H&K compact 45 and liked it immediately. I carried it for a couple of years and just recently move to the 1911. Now I carry a Les Baer SS Stinger. I still have my H&K, it just doesn't get carried every day.

I'm a huge Sig fan. I have a stainless 226 in .40 caliber. I like the functionality with the decocker, similar to a revolver when you have one in the pipe. It just seems like a really safe way to go.

I also just really like the gun, it fits my hand like a glove.

Both are great guns. I would go with what is lighter and or more comfortable to carry. A heavy CCW will spend more time gaurding your glove box than gaurding you.

thanks for your service, and I would say get the one you feel more comfortable with. the sig should be heavier, and I don't know if you like that or not. I personally carry a mid size 45 but in a polymer frame so it is around 36 ounces loaded.
