advice, looking for a HD/range shotgun

Looking for a HD/range shotgun be using often at the range. I am looking at 18inch, 12g or 20g. Something under $300 if possible.. I looked and saw 870s for over 350......... I thought 870s where only $300? ( I must be thinking past years prices)
