Advice needed on a pocket pistol

I can vouch for the PF9, thin, light, real sights, 7+1 9mm and the newest generation will feed 147 gr with out an issue. I have ran mostly 115 gr, 124 gr seems poa at 7 yards. I'll admit that the Kahr has better trigger, fit and finish, but at a higher premium. Again you can get the KT PF9 used for around 175 in my area, recoil might catch you off guard but at 12.7 oz unloaded and .88" thick. Hopefully you can find one to shoot before you buy, it is definitely not an everyone loves gun.

Thanks again for the advice everyone, but I found a deal today I couldn't pass up. I was talking to a pal about my situation and he said I should come over and try his Taurus. I got there and he retrieved a PT 22 from his safe. It's a DAO (which I prefer) and sports the polymer grips. I shot about a hundred rounds through it and had not the first malfunction. I asked for a price and he let me take it for $150. I'm aware that the .22lr isn't the most effective fight stopper but it should be plenty against any of the two-bit thugs that I would encounter on a sales floor or on the short walk to my car. Getting it for half the budget I had planned for is also nice considering it's only for those very few times when either the Glock or the Kahr won't do.

Thanks again and happy shooting ;)

Get a couple! I'm a fan boy:cool:

So a "friend" talked you into buying his semi-auto .22LR for a carry choice? You sure he isn't an enemy?

Walther PPS

I would give the Walther PPS a look. One in my front pocket right now. Accurate and reliable.

I have a Taurus PT-22, also. Purchased for my daughters to get a feel for handguns. Don't know as I have found an ammo choice yet that I am fully comfortable with for self defense use. Had several incidents where the ammo FTF, yet there was a witness mark that showed it was struck each time. The rim fire ammo, in my opinion, has some reliability issues. If you are going to use as your primary carry for self defense, make certain you pour some rounds through it to find an ammo you feel good about going bang and not click when you pull the trigger. It has a tip up barrel for a reason, you will find the slide rather difficult to pull back by hand, should you FTF!

That being said, however, I have found some exquisite grips for this handgun. Altamontco is a small manufacturing house that does a beautiful job cutting very intricate patterns in the rosewood/cocobolo. http://www.altamontco.com/products/pistol/taurus/pt22.php

As for a pocket holster, can't recommend for any application too highly the Mika Pocket Holster. http://www.frontiernet.net/~akim/ I own three, one for the PT-22, one for my Ruger LCR, and the third for my J frame airweight. These may be the most ugly holster you will ever see, but when it comes to pulling the handgun out of your pocket, I haven't seen anything more effective! All three hand guns disappear when in my pocket in this holster.

For IWB carry, Tommy Theis of Arkansas, makes an awesome product at a great price with excellent delivery times. He makes a Crossbreed Supertuck knockoff in the combat cut for $55 in cowhide and $65 in horsehide, postage included. Have always had my holster within 7-8 days from the time of order (I own three of these, my G19 is in one). He will even cut a couple slots in the leather so you can wear OWB, also. Talk about versatility!

Be safe.

I used to carry a Ruger LCP as my pocket gun. It works and shoot great but I recently switched to the Bodyguard 380 for several reasons.
1. The bodyguard is slightly larger and sturdier in barrel construction so its safer with hotter ammo.
2. Much better sights
3. No "smileys" or bullet setback issues with the BG
4. Second strike capability and no possibility of a dead trigger.
5. The laser is ok. I'm starting to learn its utility but I could do without it.
6. Manual safety should I choose to use it. Some see it as a detractor because they think it could be accidentally activated. I don't really see that happening. It takes effort to get it engaged. I don't see it happening accidentally. It is, however, easy to disengage when you shoot.
7. Slide locks back on an empty magazine.

The LCP/P3AT pistols are MUCH more capable that you would think for such small weapons. I wasn't sold on my LCP at all when I bought it and I was going to trade it off buy I decided to shoot it for a while first. I'm glad I did because it is really a great shooter. I think the BG is even better though. I kept the LCP to be a beater gun for when I go 4 wheeling of fishing but it has been replaced by my BG for the reasons listed for other times when I need a weapon that really "disappears".

Kel-Tec for me, all of mine are flawless shooters and very accurate at 7-10 yards:

Top and middle are 1G P-32's and bottom is P-3AT Freedom Edition 2057 of 5000

kahr pm9

I know you said it printed , but try it in a galco pocket holster. You get decent stopping power with one of the smallest 9's out there other than a Rogh. 9 which takes to much time and trouble to keep reliable . In the summer I front pocket carry in cargo shorts and you can't tell its there at all and my hand is right on it ready to go if needed, which I pray never is needed.

The type of pocket holster you use is less of a concealment factor than the type of clothes you carry the holster and gun combination inside of. You wanta wear skintight designer jeans that look like they're spray painted onto your fanny, you're gonna print a Baby Browning that's been squashed flat by a steam roller.

To pocket carry, you need pockets big and loose enough for the purpose. Consider a change of wardrobe. If you buy pants loose enough and with pockets sized accordingly, you can pocket carry your Glock 19.

Kahr CM9 you are already comfortable with the Kahr trigger so IMHO this would be ideal. It will cost you a bit more than $300 but it will be worth it.

my PT-22 went back to factory 2 times because took several tries to get around to fire . Was gun not the CCI ammo . Still wasn't reliable

I replaced with a Beretta21 its worked so well bought a 2nd that week Now both my daughters can shoot and I can re load even more. We fired a brick CCI standard velocity LR thru both guns at one sitting not one jam nor misfire . I shoot one every day 1 or 2 rounds It's my dog call when he's out running in the woods or field . He hears the shot and comes right to the door.

I now carry the PF/9 but I still have my P3at and 3 P-32 's Trade the PT-22 for a KelTec .

i have both the beretta .32 and the ruger lcp. the beretta is now on gunbroker after getting the lcp. the cool thing about the tomcat it has a saftey and a tip up barrel, the bad its a little thicker and its in .32. i picked up the ruger for $290 shipped with ffl transfer. started out on ebang then auction arms. i think the ruger would be a good choice, kel-tec also. ruger has a slide catch and the kel-tec does'nt. the ruger is a little smoother.
