Advice on a revolver

The 4" S&W K frames are the most common, and easiest to find at a great price, used. The Security Six Ruger, and the Service Six Ruger, would be equivalent in quality and durability, in my opinion. I own both, and have special affection for each one of them. Ruggedly built, accurate, and nice looking revolvers all. Another suggestion, should budget be or become an issue: The early Taurus revolvers that were hand built to mimic the S&W revolvers. My model 66 has proven to be every bit as good as the S&W 66. The model 80 Taurus is a copy of the S&W model 10, and it, too, is an awesome revolver. My two were both built in the 1980s.
And, the Taurus 66 double action trigger is nearly as nice as most single actions.

I am actually opposed to carrying a gun with 4" barrel IWB. I have a GP100 with 4" barrel and carry it in a Milt Sparks VM2. I have also built different kydex holsters for guns with 3", 3.5", 4" and 5" barrels. I really have to work to draw it. A 3" barrel comes out a bit easier and I don't notice.

I recommend a good .357 magnum.

Devastating one shot stopping power but recoil is relatively low. Ammo is somewhat cheap and you can use .38 special. .357 revolvers aren't too big, they strike a nice balance.

He is looking midsize, could be carried. A mild caliber, but not miniscule either. Reasonably priced ($400-600) too.

If he's open to the possibility of used, the S&W Model 13 or Model 64 with a 3" barrel would fit his needs nicely.

If you're going to CCW this revolver, you must ask yourself "What do I wear most of the time?"
For me, it's Wranglers year-round. Sometimes with a coat, sometimes with a untucked shirt, sometimes with a tucked shirt.
So, the 100% go to revolvers that I always have room to carry and that will will fit in my front right pocket is either a Ruger .357 LCR with Eagle wood grips or a S&W Model 36 with a bobbed hammer, factory grips and a Tyler T-grip.
I have larger revolvers and autos of numerous flavors. I enjoy carrying all of them when my clothing allows. BUT, the snubbies always fit, irregardless of what I'm wearing.

My other options include NAA mini, Ruger Blackhawk, Ruger Service and Security Sixes, PPK/S, CZ-52/82/83, Bulgarian Makarov, Zastava M57, DB380. Love 'em all, but I always keep a snubby in my pocket.

thanks guys! I will show him all this tomorrow. Being the "gun guy" at work doesn't mean I am free from gaps in my expertise. Is nice to be able to find good advice for him still.

He will have to answer these questions himself tomorrow though and hopefully go to the gunshop right behind our office to try some out in his hand
