I'm looking to put a lock box in my car. I plan to mount it to the floor in the backseat. If anyone can recommend a good one please let me know. Thanks in advance

I've had one of these pistol boxes mounted under my truck seat for the last 10 years. I can reach down and unlock the box with one hand and get my pistol if I need to. It works great!

Uses a Simplex push button lock that doesn't require batteries and you can change the combinations if you want to.

Cabela's has the same one as sportsmansguide slightly cheaper. Two sizes. Reviews online @ cabela's.

It isn't purported to be a heavy plate safe, study of the photos shows it is a formed metal clamshell in light gauge steel. The cable is rated 1500 pounds but is not cut resistant. It does cost less than the Simplex lock alone, is portable, TSA rated, and fits in briefcases, luggage, etc.

TUFFY offers lots of alternate lockboxes for Jeeps, utility contractors, LEO, and custom order. They have dozens of sizes, designs and styles in coordinating interior colors.

If there were any criteria I would apply, it should be secure, easy to use, not telegraph what the driver's up to, and unnoticeable. A key fob door lock system would be a desireable addition - you'd be acting like any other suburbanite locking up the car.

I have one of these that I bought from Brownells for under $25. It works great! It does its intended job of keeping smash and grab thieves from getting away with my handgun. It's nice for the fact that it slides underneath one of the seats so it's not visible and it's portable so it can go with you like a hotel that does not have an in room safe or staying at family/ friends homes that have children. It can wrap around a bed frame.
