Advice Ruger P90

Timbo's P90 does feed rocks. It also feels like a super sized Combloc modern art abomination. Houge's hand model is clearly intended for somebody else because not one of their fingermolded grips fit me worth a hoot. Ruger's stocks are yet another reason why Zytel is the worst material ever pressed into that role. Grips aside the utter lack of checkering and abundance of sharp edges are a subtle combination that ensure that you can't hold on to it when you want to yet it's guaranteed to hang up on something when drawing! Plus they don't seem to comprehend the virtues of putting the safety on the frame where you don't have to be third degree awkward to operate it under duress. Seriously why can't anybody design a slide mounted safety that flips DOWN for fire and up for safe? I did once read that Ruger engineers milled off one entire half of the slide frame interface just to see if it would work. Apparently they called old Bill to let him know that it was still feeding and ejecting. Bill told them to get back to work as he already knew the gun was tough. Which leads me to wonder why they didn't just mill half the thickness away on each side and make the gun better looking, lighter, and easier to holster...

I love mine. Will feed any ammo I choose to feed it. Had a couple of bad boxes of Rem UMC that had some rounds didn't go bang on the first strike but that was an ammo issue, not the gun. Firing pin marks were deep and consistent.

Personally It's the most accurate handgun I own and the most accurate I have ever shot. I shoot quarter sized 8 shot groups at 7 yards with it, and 15yard groups that are one ragged hole about the size of an golf ball. In a fobus paddle or don hume IWB it is not that hard to conceal either.

For 250 I'd jump on it. FAST before someone else does!

I had one for a while and really liked it. It was totally reliable and shot very well. The slide was certainly bulky but the grip was relatively slim with factory grips. I think they're still a great deal at the selling price for new and better than subsequent Ruger .45s.

Sigh... My friend Rockstar is riding his Ruger-Hating Horse again. Sir, to what sharp edges do you speak? What lack of checkering? There isn't much, but the safety is checkered, and acts as a little handle for racking the slide. I know your delicate, aristocratic hands require soaking in water with rose petals and extra-virgin olive oil every few minutes lest they chafe, but c'mon. Look, I will take a lot of insults, but at least my gun doesn't have a kickstarter errrr... uh, I mean a "decocker" that looks like something straight out of the mind of Charles Babbage hanging off the side of it. C'mon, Rockstar! Replace your velvet panties with some camoflauge Fruit of the Looms, put down "Kittens Weekly", replace the cucumber-melon moisturizer with some Pennzoil and join the rest of us men as we eat raw meat and use our brawn to build Mount Rushmore. Again.

hahaha.... I hope the mods close this thread now so I get the last word, ye hater of all things Ruger.:neener:

"Sir, to what sharp edges do you speak? "
-Any place on the gun where two planes meet Ruger has left you a sharp edge instead of a radiused edge. There's nothing particularly "manly" about shoddy worksmanship.

"What lack of checkering? There isn't much, but the safety is checkered.."
-That would be my point, the only part that IS checkered is the part that prevents the gun from firing. Ruger once again ignores that being able to hang on to the gun is more important than fiddling with the decocker/safety/mellon baller/tactical slowdown lever.

Say what you want about the SIG's decocker but it's placed AWAY from the thumb because nobody needs to decock quickly. Interesting factoid, the SIG P220 was designed to mimic service revolvers, hence the DA has no safety preventing it's use. An "enhancement" they made to the system over it's revolver predecessor was to place a decocker where it wouldn't interfere with a hasty draw and shoot. Such has never and can never be said of the Ruger design. The same applies for all slide mounted safeties that work bassackwards.

Speaking of "raw meat" my SIG P220 is literally checkered or wrapped in grippy rubber on EVERY part my shooting hand touches! I require no feminine salves to relieve my chapped hide, for the callouses aid in my shooting. Of course I paid more for my gun than you did, and mines not made in the U.S., but it's Teutonic masculinity is beyond reproach!

I have had mine (stainless) for 10 yrs, and it is my nightstand gun. I have probably fed 1500 rds in it, with no bobbles. I love the feel and balance of the gun.

I carried my P90 concealed with just an Polo shirt for about 3 months while I waited for a custom holster for my Sig P229, $250 in good condition is a very good price.

For concealment the holster type, position and belt matter far more than the size of the firearm, use a bad holster or belt and you will have trouble concealing anything.
