Let's not repeat ourselves.

Ok, I think he's got the point on not leaving things that are attractive to punk thieves in the car and locking the doors is the first line of defense just like not leaving cheese out for rats.

If anyone has any more useful information that isn't a repetition of something already said please contribute. If not, then there's no need to post.

Thanks hso! And thanks to all who have contributed useful suggestions. I just ordered some motion sensitive security lighting to bathe my driveway in light. I hope that'll be adequate to make it a hard enough target. My guess is the perps don't want to be seen or heard. After that, maybe I'll rig up a video system if it doesn't cost too much...

I've got the same problem

I keep a paintball gun and tee ball bat hidden by the front door. Of course it'd be nice to have a CCW too, but I don't.

I figure a few paintballs to the chest and legs should keep them from coming back, and if they have a knife or something the small light bat would give me an advantage.

A couple of 14 year olds shot a grown man around here a few weeks ago over a few beers, so don't underestimate them because they're young. :uhoh:

I wish I had a CCW:(

If locking the doors is all it will take to stop a crime...the lock the doors EVERY TIME you leave it! We spends hours here talking about being prepared and maintaining the right mind set, locking a car door can be as easy as pressing a button on a key fob or turning a key in a driver door lock..so what? Simple stuff! No more difficult than checking that you have a full mag in you carry pistol before you leave the house.

Make locking the doors part of your muscle memory, much as you (should) do for reloading your favorite firearm - teach your muscles to follow a sequence of steps after your key is removed from the ignition and you are getting out. This might help you one day if you have to de-butt your vehicle in a hurry.

Send a paintball high into the face or low into the groin area and hello lawyers. Oh yeah, what about Motorola's Homesight system? Everything you need for 320x240 color resolution with sound for something like $150 from Radio Shack. Although I think the others camera suggestions would give you better image quality for the price, this system is plug and play.

You guys, it's really more about contingency planning. It's important to have more than one line of defense. Just in case you forget to lock your car, what is the best next line of defense?

You seriously think arming yourselves with paintball guns and laying in wait is a good idea as opposed to locking your car doors? You can put an eye out with those things and I'm sure the prosecutor will ask you the same question.

Jeez. How can you forget to lock your car? It's just a $20,000 piece of machinery you're still making payments on, why make sure it's as secured as it can be? If the kids aren't forcibly breaking and entering your vehicles then the only real people to blame is yourselves.

If you're in an area where you need a 'contingency' plan as a backup for absent mindedly forgetting to lock your car door, move. I will offer up on suggestion though, get Lowjack.

It's used by the police as a no-bull tracking device for your car. No guarantees they'll get it back in one piece if your car makes it to a chop shop, because a partial recovery is still a recovery. However, from what you described as just items in the cars being stolen I don't think the cost is very beneficial.

Also, what does this have to do with guns? From the sound of your post you're the last person I want being able to carry concealed. Shooting at someone for property is illegal and you will go to prison in Florida. Discharging a firearm in public is a felony, on top of shooting at someone whose just stealing something that is not INSIDE YOUR HOUSE where you are not in any immediate danger.

Think long and hard about this one or sell your guns before you hurt someone.

Neighood watch is just PC bulls**t. It does nothing. We have one, they drive by all the time with their car signage, and I wave to them, and a couple of hours later the bastards smash my window and steal the radio, or whatever. In the last 3 years, 7 cars broken into. Fort Worth police:"Sir, the only defense you really have is good insurance." (Translation:"We are incompetent and inept, so take care of yourself." BTW, I intend to.). I keep a Remington 870 with a Surefire G2 attached, and 00 buckshot at the front door. These guys are good. I have never been able to catch one of them. Texas law is very clear. If it is at night I can blast them to hell where they belong. I just can't manage to catch them. Texas law is clear on another point. If I call them to report a theft and they can demonstrate that the car was unlocked, guess what...the theifs go free (as usual), AND I Get a ticket for failing to lock my car. Business as usual. The victim becomes the criminal, and the guilty party gets away with anything. Welcome to the brave new world.

Well, I think that's about it for this thread.
