AFG for super-short keymod rail pistol?

I just got my new pistol upper, and I'm thinking about AFGs. Mostly I just want an AFG so my hand doesn't get burnt from extended shooting, and maybe to help with consistent grip. The upper's got an 8.5" barrel and a 6" keymod rail, but the useable space on the bottom is more like 3.5" to 3.75". I wanted to get something that would attach directly to keymod without a 1913 adapter in-between, but there doesn't seem to be much available at this point. I was favoring the Strike Cobra AFG because it looked like it was designed to accomodate a more traditional horizontal grip, it's light, it has the serrated stop (can't hurt I guess), and I like the looks. But the internet says it's between 4 and 4.3 inches long, which will leave part of it hanging out past the front of my rail. I'd rather find something that fits my rail better, though I realize with the rail adapter the Cobra will be able to go a bit further back and I could well get it installed and find I don't mind the overhang.

Any suggestions?

I put an afg on one of those for a buddy. Just use a piece of the key mod rail and the afg can overlap the bottom lug on the fore end. If it doesn't quite fit just dremel the afg. It makes the pistol so much nicer to shoot. Good luck!

Yeah good point, I didn't even think about modding one but it shouldn't be too hard to do.

SF, yes. They seem very popular these days but I don't see how they offer much of what I want, compared to AFGs. They don't seem to offer anything in the way of avoiding hot rails. The Cobra has a stop, and a grip that at least looks like it can be grabbed a couple of different ways.

Actually, judging by this image:

I can probably install the Cobra grip on my rail with only minor modification. The rear of the Cobra is meant to slide onto Picatinny and the projection on the underside of my rail is 3/4". Picatinny at its widest is a bit more than that, and at its narrowest only a bit less. So I'm guessing I'll only have to carve out a bit of the inside of the part of the Cobra that mates to 1913 rail, at the rear.

That's if it doesn't clear the projection altogether once the 1913 adapter is installed.

The problem I'm looking at now is that I don't know which rail section will fit best on the underside of my rail. There's almost exactly 3.75" of space there, before it starts to project downward. I want to get as close as possible to that without going over. I suppose I should call some local gun stores and take the upper in to one to check out some rail sections first hand.

Or maybe I could just buy a nylon rail section and cut it to fit.

As far as other options go, there are some keymod AFGs, but I don't like any of the ones I've seen.

Fortis Shift is ugly and doesn't look very versatile. And it looks like snag city. I need something that won't snag. It's also overpriced.

Seekins K20 looks okay, but it's a bit too minimalist. Doesn't look like there's enough to grab to make it worth using.

The Ergo grips doesn't look like what I need, either. And it looks like something Batman dreamed up.

I looked at the Midwest Industries Keymod to M-Lok adapters - so I could use one to attach Magpul's M-Lok AFG - but I don't think that will work on my rail. I think the Magpul M-Lok AFG requires two M-Lok slots, and I don't think my rail has enough slots for that.

I like the look of the Magpul AFGs and the Strike Cobra. Really don't see why someone doesn't make one like those, but for keymod. I might just try to direct mount one of these, going by all the people online who say they've modified theirs to fit keymod rails.

Yet another option might be rail covers like Midwest makes, but that doesn't look like a great alternative. They don't seem to cover much of the handguard.

You can get a magpul clone for like 5 bucks on amazon. I think it's mud dog branded. Cheap way to try one out and see what you think.

Haha yeah I see them clogging up all the searches. Madbull. That's a really good idea too, never would have thought of that. But, I decided to try MI's panels first. Ordered two of the 5-slots and one of the 4.
