After-Action Debrief - How Do We Improve For Next Time

The various Pro-2A groups need to identify their specific "customer" markets and work hard at maximizing their respective strengths, not attacking the weakness's.

Oleg and mods -- What do we need to do to boost the bandwidth we'll need to cover the next gun-related vote? I think this is becoming the go-to RKBA website. Well done!

The left did use our might to take out the original bill. But next time I think we'll see it coming.

I hope those with Republican Senators who voted for the AWB, Gun Lock and Gun Show Loophole amendments will write, e-mail and call their Senators constantly. Go ahead and forward them a copy of every frivolous lawsuit that will now come down the pike.

This was a good "bore cleaner" for the upcoming AWB fight. Excellent work everyone!

Oooopppssss!

Sorry about that... try this PDF version

SA 2619. Mr. KENNEDY submitted an amendment intended to be proposed by him to the bill S. 1805, to prohibit civil liability actions from being brought or continued against manufacturers, distributors, dealers, or importers of firearms or ammunition for damages resulting from the misuse of their products by others; as follows:

On page 11, after line 19, add the following:

SEC. 5. ARMOR PIERCING AMMUNITION.

(a) EXPANSION OF DEFINITION OF ARMOR PIERCING AMMUNITION.--Section 921(a)(17)(B) of title 18, United States Code, is amended--

(1) in clause (i), by striking ``or'' at the end;

(2) in clause (ii), by striking the period at the end and inserting a semicolon; and

(3) by adding at the end the following:

``(iii) a projectile that may be used in a handgun and that the Attorney General determines, pursuant to section 926(d), to be capable of penetrating body armor; or

``(iv) a projectile for a centerfire rifle, designed or marketed as having armor piercing capability, that the Attorney General determines, pursuant to section 926(d), to be more likely to penetrate body armor than standard ammunition of the same caliber.''.

(b) DETERMINATION OF THE CAPABILITY OF PROJECTILES TO PENETRATE BODY ARMOR.--Section 926 of title 18, United States Code, is amended by adding at the end the following:

``(d)(1) Not later than 1 year after the date of enactment of this subsection, the Attorney General shall promulgate standards for the uniform testing of projectiles against Body Armor Exemplar.

``(2) The standards promulgated pursuant to paragraph (1) shall take into account, among other factors, variations in performance that are related to the length of the barrel of the handgun or centerfire rifle from which the projectile is fired and the amount and kind of powder used to propel the projectile.

``(3) As used in paragraph (1), the term `Body Armor Exemplar' means body armor that the Attorney General determines meets minimum standards for the protection of law enforcement officers.''.

My humble suggestion would be for people to actually learn the legislative process in the United States. Holding a basic civics class on the fly for the ill-informed and continuously correcting well meaning but obviously wrong answers about what was actually happening by people who've obviously never watched any legislature is a huge waste of bandwidth and effort.

You can be a rebel without a cause, but you can't be an activist without a clue.

ReadyontheRight,

Given the PHP vs MySQL stats I saw at the bottom of the larger CSPAN threaders I dont' think bandwidth is the problem. It's inefficient database calls that are the cause of the large delays.

I'm a geek, so I'll be downloaded the vBulletiin sources that the board uses to try and cook up an efficient and backward compatible version this weekend if work doesn't get in my way. It shouldn't take me more than 16 hours to get the whole job done and get the system using 10% of the resources it's already using.

I can see the bad things it's doing just from the interfacce and the growth in DB timing as the threads go larger.

Oleg and co, if you're reading this and bandwidth is actually a problem I could probably hack something in there that'd drop all thread views down to a mandated 10 or 20 posts per page at the same time if it's a problem. I'm also open to coming up with a "lite" HTML template if desired but that'd probably take me a month or two to optiimize and debug.

The DB stuff is easy though -- I've been doing that for years and I'm know as the a-hole around most offices for being so picky about making the DB go fast :)

A thought I had...there were about 50 different threads in several different forums all about the proceedings in the Senate. If you are cruising other gunboards as well, it becomes even worse. There should be a better way to organize everything. There should be a forum like a op center when big votes like this happen. Keep it locked during normal periods, but unlock it if some anti gets there pet legislation on the calendar or when we've got a chance to ram something down the antis' throats.

re: Mark Tyson's idea

The flyer to galvanize hunters is a good one. If someone were to design a quality flyer for distribution, I know I would print it out and take it to every sporting goods store in my area. What is the cost of 100 copies vs the 2nd Amendment?

I will be making flyers sometime next week, and will post a link in my sig when they are done. For starters, I will make them for Arkansas. However, I think I will try to use a template that can be easily manipulated for all states, so that all can distribute them to their friends and local gunshops.

Ladies and Gentleman, you have at your fingertips, as you read this post, the single most powerful communications tool ever created for use by human beings.

You can reach with a computer literally every single human being with an internet connection.

Use the recorded votes and recorded statements supporting such things as the 30-30 Wal-Mart ammo ban, and the AWB extension to hammer senators up for reelection.

Educate your friends. Email, call, talk.

Invite non-shooters to go shooting with you.

Never give up. Never surrender. Neither ask for nor give any quarter.
