"The brother of Douglas Chanthabouly told investigators that he had seen his brother with several weapons before the Wednesday morning shooting of 17-year-old Samnang "Sam" Kok in a school hallway."

"Chanthabouly's brother reportedly told police in an interview that while his brother was not in a gang, he hung out with some gang members and mimicked their dress."

Well, one 'source' about the shooters past gun dealings firearms is apparently his own brother. Likewise about his 'gang association/emulation.'

>"We're thinking it was a respect issue and that it had something to do with money, or property or something along those lines," said Tacoma Police Department spokesman Mark Fulghum.<

Yeah, something along those lines...

:uhoh:

Yeah, "dis" and dat, yeah.

If what's said about this kid is true--illegal gun trafficker, maybe schizo, et al.--why the hell is he out loose and in school next to your kid or mine? The System needs to be taken to task here, all of it, from the Feds on down to the local school board.

God help us.

I agree longeyes.

This is sounding MORE and MORE like it's NOT a gun issue. Instead it sounds like:

A parent accountability issue.

A school accountability issue.

A teacher accountability issue.

A mental health care accountability issue.

A police accountability issue (re Tacoma's gang problem).

A immigration policy accountability issue.

Et cetera.

Guns, as "part of the problem" would fall far down on the list of things to blame.

Just got off the phone with one of my District Legislators office, they gave me a call back: synopsis, guns are not the problem, my legislator will not support this legislation and doubts the gunshow proposal will go anywhere.. So we'll have to see.

I sent Mayor Nickels a letter. Hopefully it will inspire some others to do the same. I'll also be writing my state senator and representatives.

Mayor Nickels,

I'm writing with regard to the gun control legislation you recently announced you will be pursuing.

Earlier in the day while listening to your radio interview on NPR, I became determined to write a letter to you quoting our founding fathers, paraphrasing historians, and referencing studies and statistics. However, as the interview went on, it became glaringly obvious that the only statistics you seem to place much importance upon are those of the political demographics of your constituency.

If you want to know why young people seem apathetic about politics, this is a good example. Gun control is currently being proposed to fix a complex social issue, yet no young person with half a brain believes it's going to work. Time and time again we see poor resolutions being touted as the fix to problems they won't affect, maybe even worsen. It isn't apathy that causes us not to care about politics, it's hopelessness.

Hopefully you'll read this, hopefully it'll have an impact on your thinking, but I won't be surprised nor disappointed if it doesn't!

Thanks for your time,

David Forrest

You will probably want to leave "mental health" out of this.

They're the reason we're in this stinking mess to begin with.

Institutional Mental Health is not your friend.

They've had our school system on an i.v. drip of "mental health" methodology for more than 40 years. The more they inject, the worse it gets.

Give them more money and another 40 years. They will eliminate any course of study that requires rational thought, since rational thought is too hard for "normal" people and hurts their self esteem.

School will consist of
  • Morning nap
  • Smoke break
  • Refreshment Hour, with pills distributed by school nurse (mandatory)
  • Lecture on Why America Is Bad
  • Critique of American Values and Why I'm A Victim
  • Sex break (not mandatory)
  • Afternoon nap
  • Confessional Hour, where kids list all the bad things their parents have done.
Advanced electives will include Deconstruction Of Religion: Why God Is Evil and Career Advancement: Getting The Most Out Of Welfare.

However, this will not go on for long, as various barbarian hordes will sweep through and replace the whole stinking culture with something else.

I got a call back today too, and the summary of the call was about the same as yours.
