I posted something a while back that brought a lot of criticism about the incidents that have happened in my life time related to defending myself and others. Because of the response to that partucular post, I'm some what iffy about continueing with my post about being victimized, against all odds and statistics. I'm a 55 year old man who has been the victim of more deadly incidents that I can honestly recall without a great deal of effort. It seems like every stinking perpetrator within any given distance of me, picks me or someone I'm with, as their next victim.
It all began when I was 12 yrs. old in the City of Orange, Orange Co., California. I lived about 10 miles from the Villa Park Dam and liked to go rabbit hunting on the weekends. I would get up just before day light and grab my 22 pistol and ride my bike out there to shoot a few rabbits. One morning while riding out there I noticed a truck that had just drove by me stopped up ahead. When I approached a man with his window rolled down asked me to come up to the truck so he could ask me something. I was a bit skeptical but carefully approached. As soon as I was within his reach he grabbed me and had a knife that he quickly put up to my chest. Since he was in the truck he had to take the knife away long enough to get out and try to force me in. It was at that moment I was able to get my hands on the pistol he didn't know I had. As soon as he saw it he made an attempt to get it from me but not before I got a round off that missed him, I think, and put a hole in his windshield. He instantly broke off his attack and beat feet back into his truck. I was never so happey to have had a gun because I'm certain it would have ended well for me without one. This was around 1968 when one wouldn't think a time of deviant perpetrators prowling the streets for innocent children.
Throughout the rest of my life I have encountered circumstance after circumstance that have been of deadly type threats. I was kidnapped multiple times, with my Sister a couple of those times. I won't go into the long detailed list of encounters I've been so unfortunate to have had. All I will say is that, for those who have never thought it can happen to you, don't let your guard down. I carry a gun on my hip every day from the time I wake up, until the time I go to sleep, and then I sleep with one under my pillow. I live a normal life, just with a gun on my hip is all. In my last post about my mis-fortunes I was called names and treated with more than just a skeptical response. Please, I'm no hero or trying to gain some demented level of attention, I'm only trying to let someone know that the odds are better than we think about becoming a victim of a deadly threat, just to raise some awareness of the odds.
I now and have lived in a state that allows open carry and concealed carry without a permit since 1972 and take advantage of that wonderful privilage. However, this state has been no better than California regarding the number of incidents encountered.

I don't doubt you. I know several people who, for some unknown reason just seem to be magnets for these kinds of things. Just normal people trying to life a normal life. Not someone living a criminal or in any high risk profession.

One is a petite accountant. Dresses on the very conservative side. Been mugged 3 times and raped once. All this in less than a year in a quiet little area in Puget sound. Tragic.:barf:
