First LEO encounter while carrying.

We need more encounters like this, so the LEO community in general can see we're not a bunch of crazy cooks. Glad it was a positive experience.

The LEO community in general is on your side and does not think we're a bunch of crazy "cooks", despite what some around here would have you believe.

LOL...I hate those "crazy Cooks"...if you don't watch 'em they'll actually throw a big plate of spaghetti on you while drinking and smoking a ccw permit and yelling at their wife while driving a bicycle...

...darn those guys...

New for 2002 in Indiana

IC 35-45-3-3
Throwing burning material from a moving motor vehicle
Sec. 3. A person who throws from a moving motor vehicle:
(1) a lighted cigarette, cigar, or match; or
(2) other burning material;
commits a Class A infraction.

Indiana is either:

  • Stupid.
  • Green enough all year round that wildfires just can't happen.
    [/list=a]

That should be a misdemeanor at MINIMUM.

This from a state that requires a permit just to TRAVEL through with a gun?

Also pretty stupid is that I have yet seen or heard of anyone getting pulled over for this. I still see tons of people toss cigarettes...and nothing is done. I think that the real solution to cigarette wast is a $.05 deposit per cig, so a dollar a pack. You bring the butts in for a refund of you deposit. Kind of like some states do with bottles. This would stop new pollution, and have people pick up a lot of the crap voluntarily.

I just love people who are all for personal responsibility when it comes to carrying a gun but can't seem to remember anything about responsibility when it comes to keeping their trash to themselves. I think there's word for that, but alas, it escapes me.

I have been burned 4 times in the last 10 years while riding a motorcycle by ???????s that throw lit butts out the window. I caught two of them. Neither will ever do that again. If it came out of your truck there is a good chance that one of us would be dead and since I would spray you with pepper spray before I said a word I doubt that you would get a very good sight picture before I was able to draw and shoot you. Throwing a lit butt at someone is an assault, hitting them with it is a battery, a felony, and know it wasn't an accident, they threw the butt out the window on purpose it didn't jump out of their hand when the vehicle hit a bump.

This would stop new pollution, and have people pick up a lot of the crap voluntarily.

Mr. M. That's focking brilliant!

I don't know why it hasn't been thought of before.

Gosh, we'd have the bums out there picking up all of the cig butts they leave around right now! Outstanding!

Maybe I'm a bit tired, but this really sounds great.

Yeah, I think it's a pretty good idea...and that $1 a pack is enough to make people think twice before they throw on the ground or out the window.

I routinely cited folks for throwing cigarettes out the window of their vehicle. Copies of the cite went into a suspect file in case a fire started close to their travel route. If the lit cigarette went into the grass, they were detained long enough to see if a fire started. They were offered the chance to go chase their cig, but few did. Most fires that start here cost a few million to resolve.

I know this is O/T, but I am simply amazed by how many people don't realize that cigarette filters are plastic. They are not biodegradable. If you have no qualms about tossing them, why not throw your soda bottles, oil jugs, and all the rest of your junk out the window? It's all the same, it's not going to go away until someone disposes of it properly. Also, wildlife become ill and die all the time from complications caused by eating discarded cigarette butts and other hazardous synthetic wastes.

You should talk with your wife. Smoking tobacco, which trashes your lungs and those around you, is bad enough. Polluting the earth at the same time is a terrible thing to make a habit of.

Wow! Look at all the perfect people who have never made a mistake or a bad decision in their lives. The guy's wife should have used the ash tray. OK. Got it. Doesn't make him Hitler. BTW folks. Lead is not exactly great for the environment either. I hope he meant he doesn't drive or carry a gun when he is drinking.

Lead is a naturally occuring element. By shooting into an earthen berm I/we are actually helping the environment by returning it to whence it came. In fact, we are actually recycling lead, without the need for a instutionalized program, so no overhead.

Also you may have noticed that grass on ranges grows thickest at the firing lines. The firing process produces nitrogen, which is a natural fertilizer.

We should be proud. Shooters have probably done more good for the environment that the hippies ever did. Every day is Earth day to a farmer, and at the range.

"Lead is a highly toxic metal that was used for many years in products found in and around our homes. Lead may cause a range of health effects, from behavioral problems and learning disabilities, to seizures and death. Children 6 years old and under are most at risk, because their bodies are growing quickly.

Research suggests that the primary sources of lead exposure for most children are:
- deteriorating lead-based paint,
- lead contaminated dust, and
- lead contaminated residential soil."

Don't get me wrong , I love shooting. I love lead! Especially in my cereal! But to say we are fixing the environment by putting lead back into it is crazy.

Rickstir .......bet you didn't know you would get this many lectures about smoking when you posted this item.

Wow! Look at all the perfect people who have never made a mistake or a bad decision in their lives.

I agree, none of us are perfect.... But when you make the SAME mistake.... I dunno.... 20 times a day, 7 days a week?!?!?! Thats alot of "BUTTS"

the funny thing is, i rarely see anyone BUT smokers littering. i know its probably a rash generalization, but from what i've seen smokers are the least concerned with preservation of the environment. afterall, they dont care about preserving their own health, or that of those around them.

i want to ho-slap every smoker that tosses a butt when their is an ashtray or trash receptacle specifically designed for cigarrettes right in front of them.

Damn. When did THR turn into a message board about smoking. Wish we could all stay on topic. Glad to hear that there are still reasonable LEOs out there.
