how old where you guys when u got your first deer?

i got my first deer on saturday and im 17
she was a small doe and i got an 80yrd head shot with my scoped 336 in .30-30

Small indeed! You know, those spots mean they're not ripe yet.

;) Just joshing you. I remember my grandfather taking me hunting when I was a smaller kid than I am right now. We were sitting in a box stand one day, hadn't been there twenty minutes, when a little yearling doe steps out. Probably a bit smaller than yours. He looks at me as I sit there watching it, and says "Well? Gonna shoot it or not?" I told him that dad said not to kill anything unless it was big enough to shoot. He then said these fateful words to me, "Boy, the little 'uns taste the best. Shoot 'em."

God rest his soul. So I took the huge 20 yard shot with the old 30-06 and we were off the stand within 20 minutes of arriving.

Wasn't my first, but was definantly one of my most memorable.

I was 16. The first year I could legally do so in NY. My son turns 6 in March and I now reside in Missouri. I'm gonna try to get him his first next year.

well with mine was in a treestand ( i found it at a yard sale for 15 bucks lol) and after an hour i didnt c a thing

so i took a walk up tot he top of a hill about a quarter mile past my truck and as soon i get up ther i c a small doe run under the power lines then stop and look right at me

then ..pow right in the eye and out the other

she weighed about 65 lbs but she was still a pain to drag the .25 miles back to my truck

At the current rate, I'll be dead before I get a deer.

I've got to do someplace where deer are as plentiful as rabbits are here. Deer tags in my county have an 8% success rate; most people only get one tag. Having all the public lands closed due to wildfires didn't help this year, either.

Paintballdude, I also shot my first deer, a doe, when I was 17 on National Forest with a Marlin 336 30/30. That was 27 years ago, and I just killed my latest deer today with the same 30/30. It is a 9 point buck. :)

I was 39. I never really hunted deer prior to that. I have got the bug now though. BTW it was a decent doe at about 100yds with a Marlin .35 Rem. She dropped like a stone and tasted really good.

Congratulations, Paintball!

I took my first deer- a small whitetail buck- the first year I could hunt- I was 15. I MISSED the 2 biggest bucks I've ever seen just last weekend!

Keep hunting!

Doug

First deer

Must have been about 1965 or 66. I was too young to go to deer hunting in Bandera with the rest of the bunch for too many years and it drove me nuts. I finally got to go. We hunted blinds with feeders and oat patches. I wasn't very good in the blind and it always seemed very early and dark.
The second mid-day dad and I were walking and glassing the opposite hillside. He spotted three deer under some oaks across the way and kneeled down so I could shoot off his left shoulder. We were shooting a sporterized 1891 Argentine Mauser with a Redfield scope on it. 7.65. I broke the shot and lost the deer in the recoil. Dad said I hit it. We crossed the draw through the tall grass and found a yearling doe under one of the oaks about 15 yards from where I had shot it. Heart/lung shot. Dad said he had paced off the distance as we crossed and it was 212 yards. I must have been 12-13. He was 45.

I took a 55 year old college friend hunting this last weekend. He had never shot a deer. I guided and coached and he shot two nice 110 lb does, dropping both of them in place with my Ruger #1 with a Leupold 3X9X50 on it in 7X57. He had a great time. I've got a 13 year old around the block that doesn't know it yet but he's going to shoot a doe this week up at Clarksville, Tx.

Shot my first deer when i was 21. Started shooting pheasants, rabbits and duck when i was 15. 43years later i'm still knocking them over.

Age 16. Sitting in the jeep with my uncle, using his .222 on a very patient and cooperative doe at about twenty yards or so. I still remember his sage advice, whispered in my ear, "^$%#^&, shoot the ol' bitch!"

:D:D:D

White spot. Became a habit.

Had just turned eleven and my grandpa was soooooo proud. :D

75 yards, partially obscured by a ridge and on a dead run after a doe. Great shot even if I am braggin'. :D I was an accomplished shot with a .22 rifle and squirrel hunter by age 10. I had a good rest over a log for that shot and knew what I was doing. It was not luck. Was shooting a .257 Roberts and put the 117 grain Sierra spitzer in the shoulder and took out the top of the heart. DRT

BTW, was in the hill country near Leaky, Texas.

I was 31 ... first year I really went serious deer hunting. Button buck at 80 yards or so with my Father-in-Law's Remington 760 in .30-06. Got hooked (and eventually got that rifle). Been pretty successful since, averaging better than one per year. I've since taken deer with rifle, shotgun, bow & arrow, and handgun. Haven't tried muzzle loading yet, but expect I'll get around to it. Most recent was a nice-sized doe (weighed in at 150# field dressed) taken yesterday with a Mossberg 500 slug gun.

Congratulations on your first deer. Wait'll you get your first good buck!

23.
Always had family and friends that were big into hunting, and I've been a shooter for a long time, but never could work out my schedule to get into it myself.
Finally went out for the first time last year on my uncle's farm. Got a 9 point buck with a .54 great plains rifle I built from a kit, and then field dressed and butchered it with knives I made. Pretty neat experience and I'm definitely hooked.
Looks like I'll only make the last 2 days of gun season this year, but if I strike out I'm gonna pull out my compound bow and I'll have another couple months.

34 last year. A 7pt. Killed my second this morning a 5pt which was bigger than the 7pt. 1st with a 300mag. Today my 30-06. 30yds from where i killed the 7pt last year and on public land.

Seen 10 deer this year through out archery season, every single one was a doe. You think by now I would have enough sense to make sure I get a doe tag.
