Airsoft: Good Practice

gunjunky, the 1911 that Father knows best is the same one that I mentioned further up the thread. I'm pleased with mine, but FKB is correct when he mentions corner cutting. This is not an all steel gas blowback like the higher costing models, yet performs well in its price niche. My manual grip safety also was a bit sticky but quickly fixed itself with very little use. I'm not sure how durable in the long term this will be, but for now I'm pleased. I purchased mine via Ebay, and for $80.00 it included shipping, one can of gas, and 1000 .20g pellets. Not a bad deal, I think. As for the grip safety not actually working like intended, so what? It still simulates the actual inward/outward movement. I can't think how it not working exactly like an actual 1911 will impede my reason for purchasing it - force on force training and instructing novices. I recommend this model without hesitation at this price point.

Thanks.

FKB and Eric,

Thanks for the feedback on the 1911 airsoft. I have been looking for a good F on F training gun and think this is the way to go. In my job we use some Sim guns but they are expensive and have some disadvantages that airsoft over come, availability is a big one.

FYI, I broke my "Caspian", already. The slide stop came apart when I disassembled the gun. Instead of being one piece, like real 1911 slide stops, the one on my Airsoft Caspian consists of a pin that is pressed into a recess in the lever. A projection on the other end of the lever sticks through a hole in the frame and is engaged by the follower on the mag.

Anyway, when I tried to field strip the gun, the pin stuck. Instead of drifting it out with a punch, I grabbed the lever and pulled on it. It came right off the pin.

I've since pressed the pin back into the lever (after drifting it out of the frame and barrel, of course), and reassembled the gun, but the slide stop no longer locks the slide back on an empty mag.

Bottom line -- you get what you pay for. If you aren't careful, you can break it.

Mine shoots just fine, with the occasional failure to cycle mainly caused by low gas pressure. I learned that you need to fill the mag with gas and let it sit for a few minutes to warm back up before shooting it. It would be nice to have a few spare mags, but I haven't found anyone who sells them.

Still, it's a fun little toy.
