Anyone here play with Airsoft guns? I was looking at various gun photos on the web and stumbled across these Airsoft guns. They look really real and would be fun to play with indoors.

I was thinking about buying a Glock 18 Full Auto. Any tips for a Airsoft Newbiee?

I play airsoft, although I havn't had time recently. Airsoft guns are a great practice and training tool for times when you can't use a real gun. Plus they're just fun to go out into the woods with your friends and skirmish. Like paintball only better. I have played with three of the guys on this board, Daniel Flory, Ian, and Chris Rhines. Unfortunately we havn't had time to play this semester. If you want any more info about airsoft look around on google or ask one of us. As for buying an airsoft gun, look around on ebay. That's where I got my Beretta M9 and Ian got his 1911.

Top Gas and the like are very much like propane and seemingly just as flammable (don't ask how I know).

I bought an M-11 a little while back and have been more than thrilled with it. 12 shots a second with a reciprocating bolt, it's a fine way to vent steam.

An airsoft gun would be pretty fun for just plinking in the back yard or in the apartment if you set up a good trap, so you're not throwing balls around all over the place...

I'd love to get an MP5 full auto and blast around

Gas blow backs or GBBs are the best of the handguns. It uses usually 1, 1, 1, 2 - Tetrafluoroethane gas to cycle the action and propel the pellet. The most common type of gas is Green gas. (type in green gas in google or on ebay to find out more about it) The gas reservoir is in the magazine along with the pellets typically. Part of the gas from each shot goes to propel the pellet and the rest goes to cycle the action.

I made a small pellet trap out of a cardboard box but sometimes pellets would go through. I had another idea, however, to use a thin sheet of plywood covered with a layer of carpet (to keep the pellets from bouncing too much), angled towards you at 45 degrees. Under this would be a shallow box of roughly the same size as the backstop (possibly covered with another layer of thicker carpet to keep the pellets from bouncing out). Unfortunately I never got around to making one of these.

I've got a Tokyo Marui Colt M733 AEG myself, it's sweet. For playing outdoors doing skirmishes one of the electric SMGs or rifles like this is better. For just plinking around in the backyard the gas blow back pistols are probably better, since the blowback adds a little something to the fun/realism IMO. However you have to take buying gas all the time into consideration. It's not expensive but they don't really give it away either, adds up. Where as a AEG is more expensive to start with, all you buy is BBs since it runs off a rechargable battery...

I originally had a gas blow back KSC Beretta M9, it worked great and was plenty of fun to plink around with, but I was getting outranged and overpowered trying to play with a bunch of guys all using AEGs, so I sold it to fund part of my AEG. A buddy had/still has I think one of the KSC Glock 18Cs, probably the model you're looking at. It was killer fun to shoot, worked nice. He added a metal slide and it felt even better...

BTW, I see you are in Georgia, there is Airsoft Atlanta storefront that is not too far away from you, can't hurt to go check it out. www.airsoftatlanta.com I got my KSC M9 there for under $100. One of the KSC guns is a good choice since they have adjustable hopup (backspin control on the BB) and are generally pretty inexpensive, whereas most of the other brands models in their pricepoint have fixed non-adjustable hopup... Steer clear of any of the non-gas blow back pistols though, the cheap springers are crap, and the electric blowback ones suck too.
