Sick of Airsoft

I'm certainly tired of the airsoft crap, everytime you type in a type of firearm on youtube to watch a review you get an 8 year old reviewing an airsoft copy and I'm certainly tired of the airsoft questions on Yahoo Answers hunting section.

I read a thread on Ohioans for Concealed Carry where one of the members was working in his pawn shop and a guy came in and tried to rob him with an airsoft and he saw how small the muzzle was and whipped out his gun, he said the guy about shat himself and took off running...

novaDAK -

The really funny part about it is that both words have double spellings with the same vowel replacements.

real, reel, steal, steel.

So if you're a fishing guy, you can get a real steal on a steel reel, if you know how to deal

It's almost as fun as the "muzzle brake" spelled "muzzle break."
To be honest, I did accidentally type "real steal" at first but caught my mistake before posting :D

Airsoft is for the legions of guys who aren't man enough to own a firearm. I've talked to these guys and they go on and on about how "cool" their airsofts are, as if they're talking about a vintage mustang, and when you ask them about firearms, they act as if you just asked them to tell you about a world they've never entered. They act almost as if real firearms don't even exist. If you try to have a firearm discussion with most of these airsoft guys, they'll change the subject fast. They live their lives in the land of make believe. Most of them are quite immature. They seem to subconsciously know that their airsoft obsession is a substitute for the real thing.

Why does this keep coming up..as if it is a problem? I would think you would want criminals to use airsoft guns in robberies. Odds of an innocent person getting killed...zero. Odds of a cop getting killed...zero. Odds of the criminal getting killed...higher (he can't effectively fight back).

And the airsoft guns make it possible for a criminal to branch out into 'armed' robbery much easier - and increase the likelihood that decent people will live through the trauma and legal aftermath of a shooting in which they defend themselves. Except now, beyond the normal problems and stresses and costs associated with it, there's going to be that ugly thing at the back of their mind - "shouldn't I have known it was a toy, and did I have to kill him."

I'm not using this as an example of how or why Airsoft should be regulated or banned or whatever - the fact is that banning and regulating things accomplishes nothing.

Rather, it's important to remember that any high-stress incident, even one in which no bullets are fired, still has a cost to the innocents subjected to it.

Their willingness to use them shows that our gun laws and sentencing have an effect and that has made people safer. If we "treat them like real guns" with the same penalties...well then the criminals might as well go back to using real guns if the penalties are the same.

Going light on people who escalate from petty crimes to armed robbery (even if it is with merely a 'threat' of violence) is folly.

If someone points an airsoft gun at anyone in public, they deserve whatever happens. Shootings where something is mistaken for a gun has been happening long before airsoft.

Yes, and will continue to happen.

But the ready availability and realism factor of the airsoft stuff, even if you just spray paint a clear one, ups the ante just a bit.

And the only person who has to pay for the aftermath of living through an airsoft related shooting is the decent people who had to deal with an imminent threat that turned out to be false.

Why doesn't glock have an airsoft gun like everyone else. What the hell?

There are airsoft copies of Glocks, and one time they were probably among the most common and popular airsoft pistols. However, Glock considers the likeness of their pistols to be their trade dress, and actively work to squash sales of Glock-like airsoft pistols in the United States. You can still buy them, but you have to order them from Hong Kong or other overseas retailers and hope they don't get confiscated in customs.

I agree, the sentence for armed robbery should be stiff (I never said to "go light"). There is usally an extra kicker of 5 yrs or so if a gun is used. I'm saying at a minimum, the extra time for using a gun shouldn't apply, or they will just use guns. I'd rather have my criminals choosing to use airsofts with the understanding that armed robbers are going to ply their trade either way.

An airsoft armed criminal getting killed by a citizen is a great outcome in my book. Way better than a shootout between them. I wouldn't feel bad (any worse than if he had a gun) about using deadly force against an airsoft armed robber. He made me in fear for my life...and succeeded, the gene pool is a little cleaner because he brought an airsoft to a gunfight.

Guns are REALLY easy to get...I doubt there is criminal out there using an airsoft because they couldn't get a gun. Heck, they can do 1 armed robbery w/ airsoft, then buy a gun w/ the proceeds if they truly wanted one), too easy.

Many airsoft guns DON'T look like real guns. My p345 is the same size and shape as a real one (even made under Ruger license), and fits all my CCW holsters, but it will NEVER be mistaken for a real one. It's not because of the orange tip, but because the whole thing is see-through plastic.

I think that's a great way to keep them from getting confused with real guns, yet maintain the right feel.

As long as no one starts manufacturing real guns out of transparent plastic, that is.

I have a number of airsoft guns that are made out of cast metal and look like the real thing.

No. But I am sick of people who can't manage a google search and then whine about the poor results.

bonza, if pointing a paintball gun at someone makes you so uncomfortable how do you ever think you will be able to use a real gun in a SD situation?

Also, the only real arguement against realistic looking toy guns is that they get kids shot by cops. But so do real guns. And if they had real responsible parents that would explain right and wrong from them it wouldn't happen. My dad flat out told me when I was a little kid with my first cap gun that if I pointed it at a cop he would shoot me. Didn't have to tell me twice!

Airsoft is a fun training aid, that requires the same safety rules as firearms. Why hate it so?

This thread seems to be increasingly leftist. I'm out.
