The previous thread on this yielded few results. So in my thread I'm specifying the particular maker (Ajax) and asking: does anyone have any personal experience with Ajax Pewter grips?

I understand, from the previous thread, that modern pewter DOES NOT contain lead, but is either nearly pure tin or a aluminum alloy.

Are the Ajax pewter grips purely decorative? Practical? Good grip? Really heavy?

I'm looking for something unusual for my Ruger MkII. Can't find bone/elk/moose, don't like most of the cheesy hardwood aftermarket grips, and Alumagrips only covers 1911s now. Buffalo would be cool, but looks too much like Black Pearlite, best as I can tell.

I have Pearlite grips on it currently, but they're MkI, so only one side fits. (If you want Ruger MkI Pearlite grips cheap, contact me!).

Thanks for any info -MV

Hmm, I hadn't realized that Ajax had such issues. I'll have to glance around THR and see if anyone has positive opinions about Ajax. They don't have much that I want except Pearlite and Pewter.

If nothing else, I'll just break down and buy Pachmayr. I've been very pleased with all their products I've had. Not flashy, but solid and practical.

In any case, the stock grips on my MkII have to go: cheap, hollow, clanky plastic with bad checkering.

have you considered imitation ivory?

www.truivory.com sells imitation ivory grips for the markI AND markII...

Tru Ivory is the most realistic looking imitation ivory i have seen... really nice stuff...
I have a set that was acid etched by www.gungrips.com for my Mark II...

I had a pair of faux Ivory on my High Power and they really looked good. However the last time at the range I came home with a pile of white chips ( yes, they were Ajax's ) However I'm a glutten for punishment and I think their pewter grips are the cats meow. I just might get a set for one of my 1911s. Heck, they can't break can they ( knock on wood)?

I feel your pain.

I once posted a thread asking about pewter grips.

What a sad, lonely little thread it was, quietly sobbing alone in the corner.
