AK-47 catches fire!

If ever there was a topic that begs for Internet forum discussion, it is, "What's the preferred method for reloading my AK when the barrel's on fire? I mean, I don't want to burn myself, but there might be waves of marauding ninja still closing on my position, so, you know..."

:what:

OK, if I pulled something like that, I am sure that some agency/agencies representative would be standing behind the camera man saying "we need to talk"!

What a complete idiot.

He is either a partner in some SOT business or REALLY REALLY wealthy, and not only that, he's a complete moron for potentially risking his life to perform a moronic stunt.

He could have very easily injured himself and his friend if a bullet had cooked off or if there was a small explosion of some sort.

I guess the easiest way to check for a moron is to check how they hold the rifle---the one handed video game grip is for dopes only.

I've had some long practice sessions, and one time my Browning Hi-Power got so hot that the trigger actually burned my finger, but I was doing aimed fire. That is just ridiculous. But I'll bet it was fun...

Well, was it the metal that caught fire, or the wooden handguards?

Did you really expect him to put his support hand right where the fire was?

Methinks he had some kind of accelerant or fuel, something, anything to help it catch fire.

My money is on SOT, and a home built post '86 dealer sample. And if that is the case, then he probably had about jack squat worth of actual money invested in that thing.

the comment at the end where he says "its hot" was the best part of the movie. It was on fire the entire time. Ive burned myself on the barrel of a bolt gun after about 70 rounds but that is ridiculous. Not going to say it didnt look fun though. You should never do something like that unless someone is videotaping you:)

i could not even watch it all. its very dissapointing to see some a** hole do something like that to his gun. its amazzing though how many people will purchase a rifle or handgun to try and do the same exact thing. Without even knowing how bad this is to do to the firearm.

This is a much better video:

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=3N0pPoSfBxE&NR

I suspect that he poured either gasoline or some other sort of fuel on it. I have fired many machine guns, well over 150 rounds non-stop, and nothing happened. I have helped fire and then continued as an observer of way, way over 1,000 rounds through an M60...no fire. Each of use fired 250 rounds! No, he did something to this to make it burn. Second the thought that this guy is lacking common sense.

Edit to add: Is there anyone else here who feels that intentionally destroying a firearm is almost like destroying a good book? It's just wrong. Seriously, if you don't want it, sell it, donate it or something. What about that full-auto too? Home-build? That would not be smart!

Wooden hand grips at the end with what I cna only guess were 50 round drum mags. The way the video starts also doesn't give us a clear representation on if that was the first mag he had fired or if he was allready on his second or 3rd. I know those things get hot enough to cook bacon on after only a little bit

It's not hard to overheat an AK. I've had the wood start smoking before I finished a 75 round drum and that was aimed semiauto fire. Since switching to polymer, I let the gun cool between strings now.

As for the guy in the video. Oh well, replacing a barrel isn't that big of deal.

That is why I said he was probably an SOT. Special Occupational Taxpayer. We can build machine guns.

I've done full auto on a AK type rifle with 2 drum and 2 30 rounders. The HG's started smoking like crazy and the barrel was glowing red.

I think the guy in this video has his HG's on fire cause he probably didn't clean the cosmo completely out of the HG or he did something to make it catch on fire.

I can only speak from my own experience by after going auto with a 75 round drum, my wood HG's didn't catch on fire as his....

Ive had the wood on my ak start to smoke just after firing 80 rounds rapid fire on semi, so im not surprised at all the hand guards caught on fire

Correia: What is an "SOT"? Special Occupational Taxpayer"?
