Ak-47 v.s m14 (m1a)

the big problem is what situation. I will take an AK in most situations but the M14 has its place in my heart.
 
I got to use and carry both of these 40 years ago, the AK is proven and will work anytime, but I would rather have my enemy in the sights of my M14 than an AK. I own an M1A standard loaded, walnut stock and it is dear to me, also own a few AKs, but they serve another purpose.
 
I chose the AK option because it'll accomplish most any scenario we would encounter. However, the M1A will most likely join my AK in the safe someday.
 
Actually, the M1A Scout will cover most situations. Just add an Aimpoint Micro. You get more power and better range. Adding short eye relief optics is more difficult.
 
Uh can we really compare an AK vs an M14 with such little info? Really come on.


What do you want it for? what are you doing with it? what is the reason for it? what is the reason for the poll? more info, more info, more info.....more info
 
On my budget, an AK or SKS. Given enough scratch, M1A Scout.
Also, for truck or trunk gun definitely SKS.
 
I have four AKs so i voted for it. I dont own a M 14 due to cost and ammo price has significantly gone up. I sold my STG 58 but i do want a M1A.
It boils down as to who can hit the target first . M1A reaches farther but if you are a bad shot it aint worth . AK rounds can hit mansized targets at 300 yds too. Its easier to log around and a heck of firearm in close combat.
 
To many variables to make an educated choice. Both are great rifles for the situation that each was designed for.

The rifles are in such different classes and price points that I refuse, sir, refuse to vote.
 
Neither.

Were I to go with a semi-auto .308, I'd opt for a LaRue OBR, JP LRP, or a SCAR-H.

For a 7.62x39, I'd just get an AR chambered in .300 Whisper/.300 Blackout.

It is an insult to compare Jeeps to the AK. Jeeps are American and helped free the world from tyranny. AKs are designed by communists to enforce tyranny and are sown across the globe to bring death, terror and instability to free nations.

Don't insult the M14 by comparing it to a luxury sedan. The M14 is elegant in it's simplicity but it has no useless and costly bells & whistles that will break down. It's a reliable, durable rifle that holds it's value well and will give you, your children and your grandchildren many years of good service
 
I own and regularly shoot both. Each has a different purpose. Neither have ever failed to fire or had any other malfunction. The M1A is as accurate as a bolt gun, the AK is adequate. the .308 can kill a long ways out, I limit the 7.62 x 39 to 100 yards for hunting.

My favorite rifle is the M1A by far. It will always be.

But if I could only have one rifle if the stuff ever hit the fan, without a doubt it would be the AK 47.
 
AK without hesitation.

More spare parts, cheaper, easier to carry/handle, magazines/ammo cheap and abundant.

I just never really 'got' the M-14 / M1-A. It's long, heavy, and not as ergonomic as comparable .308 semi-autos.
