I'm doing an AK build from a Polish underfolder kit, and I presume that I have to play the 922(r) 'ten imported parts or less' game.

(1) Frames, receivers, receiver castings, forgings or
stampings
(2) Barrels
(3) Barrel extensions
(4) Mounting blocks (trunions)
(5) Muzzle attachments
(6) Bolts
(7) Bolt carriers
(8) Operating rods
(9) Gas pistons
(10) Trigger housings
(11) Triggers
(12) Hammers
(13) Sears
(14) Disconnectors
(15) Buttstocks
(16) Pistol grips
(17) Forearm handguards
(18) Magazine bodies
(19) Followers
(20) Floorplates

So far, in addition to the Polish kit I have an Arsenal, Inc. receiver and a TAPCO Galil-style handguard and SAW pistolgrip.

Given my limited knowledge of the AK, I would have presumed that #3, #8, and #13 do not apply to the count and can be discarded from the list - true?

Are there any decent US magazine suppliers? Being able to resolve #18 thru #20 via US parts would be handy.....

How do I know if I need/want a double-hook or simgle-hook trigger group (to resolve #11, #12, and #14)?

From what I've read, you need to get the total of imported parts down to 10, so one needs 6 US-made compliance parts in total for an AK (some say 4 - still researching this) and 7 for an FN-FAL

Correct, nor does 10. Replace enough parts so theres only 10 imported parts. For example,

(1) Frames, receivers, receiver castings, forgings or
stampings
(2) Barrels
(4) Mounting blocks (trunions)
(5) Muzzle attachments
(6) Bolts
(7) Bolt carriers
(9) Gas pistons
(11) Triggers
(12) Hammers
(14) Disconnectors

(15) Buttstocks
(16) Pistol grips
(17) Forearm handguards
(18) Magazine bodies

(20) Floorplates

6 US parts, 10 imported.

US mags may or may not work, but they're an option to easily get compliance parts. I personally would rather be able to use rock solid cheap surplus mags.

Single or double hook depends on the receiver used. At the front of the hole for the trigger theres a U-shaped cut on one corner. If theres a cut on both corners, its a double.

Excellent - thanks. One more question - I can't use a double hook trigger with a single-hook receiver, but can I use a single hook trigger in a double hook receiver?

Is there some inherent 'goodness' to one form over the other?

Most people like a double if possible, but it doesnt really matter. Yes, you can use a single in a receiver made for a double.
