Looking to buy a AK-47 Yugo underfolder. Is the underfolding buttstock sturdy over time with use? Does the non-chromed barrel cause a problem shooting surplus ammo, ie. badly rusting, premature wear? Are com block mags (steel) better than us poly mags. Any help appreciated

My experience:
1) Is the underfolding buttstock sturdy over time with use? My two are still solid.

2) Does the non-chromed barrel cause a problem shooting surplus ammo, ie. badly rusting, premature wear? I've been very careful on cleaning my rifles after surplus ammo. As long as you properly clean, there isn't a problem.

3) Are com block mags (steel) better than us poly mags? I'm really not able to answer this one. All of mine are Com-Bloc metal mags.

I have had zero problems with my Yugo under-folder. I have used up until recently metal mags. The plastic one I got has only about 4 loads through it, but it has functioned flawlessly, as did the metal ones. No rust issues, and all I fire is cheap ammo in it. But I've only put about 1,500-1.700 rounds through it. Not a lot of shooting with that one.

3) Are com block mags (steel) better than us poly mags?

Haven't tried the newer (Tapco, Master Moulder, etc.) but I can verify the Pro-Mag are junk.

The Bulgarian circle 10 plastic are great, the Bulgarian "bullet" plastic are OK, but can't beat the price or performance of the steel Comblock surplus AK mags.

3) Use the Comm Bloc surplus mags, they are almost indestructible, and are the cheapest as well, under ten bucks in many instances. I've never seen one of the aftermarket mags hold up well or function 100% reliably. I did put Tapco followers in a few of my mags to have one additional US compliance part.

They sell quad rails for Yugo underfolders but don't count on it locking closed. Because you have to hold the weapon up with your hand over the folding stock I haven't had any issues with it though. I use tapco mags that work great. Don't expect the tapco mags to fit in normal sized pouches though. I'm switching to Com Bloc Steel so they will fit in my AR mag pouches. Same as the other guys clean it well if you love it and you won't have problems. The onl;y problem that I have had is the hammer spring slipping over on the trigger. This makes the rifle inoperable until you pop the top off and push it over. I don't know if this is a common problem to AKs or to Yugos or what but I'm gonna have to replace it I think.
