Just purchased 3 Tapco mags. Can't get them to lock in. Threw away sales recp.(dummy!) Anybody else have a problem like this. i like the mags, sturdy, strong springs. Would like to get them to work.

Put it in until it stops. Then look at the back side that locks in. You will see 2 small protrusions on the each side of the mag stopping it from locking in. Get a Sharp knife and shave just enough off for the it to get past. It will then lock in place with no further issues.

My tapco mags rocked right in. They were a little tighter on the sides than my com bloc steel mags though.

The newer imported WASR-10s, in reply to the old 'mag wobble' complaints, haven't been opened up as wide as most. So a wider Tapco mag (designed for a tight fit on your average AK variant) combined with a new WASR has been known to cause consternation.

Are you trying to put regular AK mags in a Saiga? The mag release latch is longer on a Saiga than on a regular AK. You have to file down the back of the mag and shorten and thin the notch on the back of the mag to make them fit.

You can tell if you are shooting a Saiga no matter how it is dressed up if the case necks have a ring blown out around them. The Russkies require this on their civilian rifles so they can ID the brass (or I guess I should say steel). If it says Russian American Armory on the side you are also probably dealing with a Saiga.

Hi-cap saiga mags usually run double or triple the price of ordinary AK mags, so numerous scumbags will try to sell you regular AK mags as Saiga Mags.

Getting our exercise jumping to conclusions, I see.

The "ringneck" only appears on the 7.62.x39 Saigas.

Nobody's mentioned a caliber, yet.

Thanks Mike, I'll try that. to others, all my steel mags work perfectly- My weapon is a SKS carbine that works with AK mags, switched out to the Tapco stock. Thanks everyone for your comments.

I have found that non AK guns designed to function with AK mags don't always work as planned or advertised. (or at least without a little massaging) From your initial post, it wasn't evident you were discussing a non-AK gun as such.
