Well, the Vector-made kit gun has a lot more in common with an actual military AK than the VEPR. They are both excellent guns. The VEPR is a bit heavier and doesnt *look* so much like an AK. I think that for a general plinker and *just having an ak* you would be better off with the Vector arms example.
 
The side rail scope mounts are the same, so things like Corbras and such work. There is an Ultimak gas tube for Veprs, and also a Vepr rail system.

As for feedback, I think the Ultimak is awesome. It is the most rock solid way to mount an optic on any AK, and unlike the side rails, doesn't mount the optic too hight. Something like an Aimpoint on an Ultimak is just plain great.
