but....thats not possible! the police spokesperson went to great lengths last night to show that this officer had xx years of experience on the police force, was working with xxxx task force and knew what he was doing.

seriously though, it would be great to hear them describe every ND as a ND, but since we have to settle for only two options: 1. the gun went off magically of its own accord; or 2. the gun was accidentally discharged, i'll be satisfied to have it described as #2.

It had to go off magically! He had so many years experience. Carelessness is negligence when ut comes to firearms. Just glad he did not shoot his foot clean off!

Anchorage PD

has a great firearms training program.

I had a chance to meet a former instructor for them. In 1987 they went to a Gunsite/Modern Technique-based firearms training program. They do "amazing"(necessary) things, like pattern their shotguns and carry the manufacturer's load who patterns best, and putting a card on the stock with a picture of the pattern, so anyone who picks it up will know how it shoots. I understand they are now hiring for those who want to move to America's frontier.

I guess this is why there is an old saying, "There are two kinds of shooters, those who've had ADs, and those who will."

I hope the officer makes a full recovery.

I've seen that video before- still can't believe my eyes.

I'm gonna guess that the guy in custody probably had a change of heart after that incident.
