AK question

I bought a Romanian AK 47 today for 400. It looks to be in good condition. I believe the manufacturer is Romarm/Cugir. I know little to nothing about these beasts as this is my very first AK. It came with 1 30 round mag. Good deal or no? BTW I got from my neighbor so I can shoot it than decide if I want to buy it even though I told him I would take it he wants me to shoot it first. What do you think?

That's about the going rate for new ones with a mag, cleaning kit, bayonet, and sling.

So definitely no steal. I sort of knew that though. I have a good cleaning kit don't want a bayonet the sling would be nice but oh well I can get one later. I guess I'll consider it a decent deal since I didn't even have to drive anywhere to find one. I'll post a picture in a few minutes. I think it has a scope mount some weird looking half can opener half rail system on left side of reciever.

Yeah, that's a scope mount, er, mount. Nice wood on that AK. $400 is about what mine cost, with nothing but the rifle, and my wood doesn't look half as nice.

$400 is a fair price for that rifle. I paid $450 for my WASR-10, however mine came with four 30-rd mags. Also, mine has the standard pistol grip and wooden stock instead of the thumbhole style stock like yours.

Watch out for canted FSB/gastube/rear sight block, and it should be a good buy. Not the prettiest of AKs (although the wood on yours looks much better than mine!), but mucho bang (pun intended) for the buck.

Looks like it might be. It don't see a flash hider and that bayo lug looks weird in the pics.

Did SAR-1s have magwell dimples?

It's not a SAR-1.

It looks like a low-cap WASR or perhaps one of the earlier imports.

$400 is not a bad price, given the recent uptick in AK prices. And the prices will likely keep going up as the dollar falls relative to the Euro.

Yesterday my nieghbor couldn't find the magazine. He found it and brought it by today and it is a 10 round single stack mag. I haven't tried a 30 round mag yet so I don't know if it will fit. Does this mean that I do have low cap WASR? If so what can I do to make 30 round mag fit? Also would I be able to change stock to non thumbhole Klinton stock? I hope so otherwise I may have myself a Kalfornia AK for sale soon.

Yeah I PM'ed nalioth. It seems as if I have WASR-10. I am going to see what it will take price wise to convert it and go from there. My nieghbor is good guy sort of in need of money, but I am not completely obligated to keep this thing. Arrgh. I just found an old thread about converting a WASR-10 while staying compliant with 922r and now believe my nieghbor just may have losy a buyer for this gun. I suppose I shoud have done my research before letting this thing follow me home.

Nope, it's not. There is a large chain out west that puts those on sale for $199 every so often.
