I think it would be cool if there was a PICTURE THREAD of ak's with scops and red dots/ any sight other than the usual irons. I don't have an ak with this type of sight (yet) or else I would post a pic myself. By looking at these pictures I hope to get ideas about what kind I would like on an ak. When you Post a please include the name of the ak you have, the sight(s), and the mount used on the rifle. :D

It's a WASR 10/63 (with a lot of work put into it) sporting a Banner 6x with a mildot recticle.

One of the true beauties of the AK platform is the scope rail, allowing you to change or remove optics without effecting the zero.

Thanks fro posting this thread. I have never owned an AK before. Last week, however, I bought an arsenal saiga SLG 21-76 from K-Var and it in route -- shoudl arrive at my local FLL on the 10th this week. I feel like a kid at holidays -- waiting for a gift to arive. Keep checking the Fed ex tracking number.

Anyway, I 've been debating the whole red dot/scope issue. My AK has a picatinny rail over the barrel, which looks cool but in retrospect I cnanot fathom for the life of me how it feels to have the optic that far away from the eye. I keep thinking that I will just put rail over the receiver and will mount a scope or a dot on it.

What's a good scope rail to use to mount on an AK? Also, this particular pic above -- is this a Russian Posp scope? What's it like? Is the reticle lit up? Does it make any sense to put a trjicon ACOG or an eotech on something like this?

Brian - I like the camo wrap- where'd ya get it?

Louis- beautiful wood.

nah, that's a crap scope I had laying around. I do however have a PSOP on my PSL-54c. It's a great scope, and yes it lights up (I replaced the red bulb that came with it with a blue one that is easier on the eyes at night. I have an eotech waiting for me to buy a new rail mount for the AK, but my extra money is going into the PSL right now.

Thank you. I've got 10-15 hours into it.

It's the Mcnett camo wrap.

It comes in different patterns and is reuable. I haven't tested it for heat resistance yet. BSW

Here's the PK-A Red Dot that I just put on my SAR-1. It's certainly no Aimpoint, but it's nicely made, fits tight on the siderail and I like the "Old School Soviet" look. It sits fairly low, but I can still use the iron sights under it and field strip the rifle without removing it.

Ok I am now trying to make up my mind between the following package deals offered online:

1. Aimpoint micro H-1 with KZ micro aimpoint mount for $470 (and then I can get an aimpoint magnifier for about 500) or
2. eotech XPS 2 with eotech 3X magnifier flip to side for a $919 combined total.

wha to you guys think will work best on a saiga SGL 21, keeping in mind thta I wopuld mind using the same system on my LWRC SBR AR?

I love the reticule on the Eotechs vs the plain 2 or 4 moa dot of the Aimpoints. However, one huge advantage Aimpoints have over everything else is battery life. For the Aimpoints it's measured in years. You can leave the dot on 24/7 and still only need to change the battery once every year or two. Compare the specs of the units you are looking at.

Well, what are you going to use to mount the optics? For me that would be my main concern. I prefer the Ultimak rail for red dots, and you would not need the KZ mount to use the Micro with that setup. Indeed, the KZ mount would make the Micro sit too high to cowitness with the irons. The Eotech would also sit very high, due to the fact that he window is on top of the optic.

Remember, the sighting plane on the AK is lower than sighting plane on the AR.

The arsenal saiga variant that I bought (SGL 21-76) comes with a picatiny rail over the barrell...the only reason why I mention the KZ mount is that it part of a package from botach. BTW... has anyone bought anyhting from botach before? I keep reading negative reviews which makes me nerveous to pull the triger. I want the red dot and a magnifier for target practice and for hunting.

Saiga by way of Arsenal and K-Var's sale. Thing's become too heavy for my taste, and most of the weight is in that handguard.

My Saiga .223 started life off with a 3-9x30 on it, but then I tried out a red dot on it and haven't looked back. Currently, it's wearing a Bushnell Trophy 6moa red dot on top of an Ultimak M1-B. I love the set up, and I get a co-witness with it.
