Hi all,
I'm currently shopping around for replacement sights for my WASR-10. The gun will be used mostly for plinking, also as "SHTF" and home defense weapon (NOT for a city house, of course). I do not intend to shoot past 200 yard, mostly under 100, so graduated rear sights are not important.
For the rear sight, I pretty much decided on a Mojo aperture sight (rather then receiver cover mounted apertures, for several reasons).
For the front sight, I narrowed it down to these:
- XS systems tritium 24/7 at http://www.xssights.com/newproducts.html (scroll down a little);
- KNS Precision "duplex crosshairs in aperture" at http://www.knsprecisioninc.com/df.htm
The XS sight sounds like just the ticket for fast short range work, in low light, on any background or target color (due to its high visibility and contrasting colors). However, I am concerned it may be too wide for target shooting at the range, or at relatively longer distances?
The KNS crosshair sight would probably work best for precision shooting, will not obscure much of the target, and will allow me to "hold over" at longer distances without covering the target. My concern is that the crosshairs may not be visible over dark background/targets, or in low light? On the other hand, maybe for short range shooting the target can be just centered in the front aperture (it is .240", compared to .150" front aperture used in Mojo "Snap Sights")?
If you have any experience with these sight types, especially on AKs, please let me know how they worked for you, and what you think of the concerns I expressed above.
I will appreciate any help in making the choice.
Alex.
