I was wondering if anyone knew of a manufacturer of AK parts that makes a safety selector switch with an extended finger hook, but not a bolt hold open notch.

These are the two I have found so far, but I really would prefer one that doesn't have the bolt notch. Does anyone have experience with these? Would you recommend them or not? Any advantages or disadvantages to replacing the safety selector with one of these?

If anyone knows of this type of part, could you help a brother out.

Thanks,

IMHO: Any gun without a bolt hold-open of some kind really needs one!

It's a safety feature, and is required at many ranges and/or matches.

Besides it's just good manners to lock the bolt open when you're not shooting so your friends and neighbors can feel more better around you.

I've seen and handled a couple different guns with the Krebs safety installed on them, and it seems to work quite well. Not sure if someone makes one without the bolt hold open notch, but it doesn't seem to effect function at all, and only locks the bolt back if you engage it deliberately.

I have the Blackjack Buffer safety selector switch with an extended finger hook and bolt hold open notch. It works really well with a non-folding stock or if the folding stock is in the open position. However, when the folding stock is closed, the length of the selector switch prevents the selector from going into the "fire" position.

By moving the closed folder slightly out of the way the selector can be moved to the "fire" position, but then the selector switch cannot be moved back to "safe" without again slightly moving the folding stock. Once closed, moving the folder either way also involves depressing the button on the rear. Some dremel work might correct the problem but I haven't yet attempted to do that.

UGH screw a bolt hold open!

If Mikhail Kalashnikov wanted one, it would be there!

Maybe he didn't want you to feel more better LOL.

Saiga's have BHO's and they are made at the same Izhmash plant that MK himself works at.

Saiga's come with a bolt hold, but when I converted mine I lost that function. I must have done something wrong if others still have that option.

The problem I have with the notched levers is while you do get the bolt hold open feature, you also leave a hole where dirt and debris can get into the internal parts. I agree with the OP in that an extended lever would be great if it didn't have the dirt gap.

dglockster. What kind of sight is on your ak
As nalioth said, the scope is a red dot Russian "Kobra" military scope. The model is the EKP-1S-03M upgrade and it operates on two AA batteries. (http://tantal.kalashnikov.guns.ru/collimator.html). The Kobra is easily mounted and dismounted without disturbing its zero. Mounting is either on a side rail like on my SAR-1 (shown below) or on Weaver rails.

There are 16 brightness levels and four reticules from which to choose:

If you want a scope that will co-witness with the iron sights, other models will permit this, but not this model.
