AK SBR kit or complete AK pistol?

I'm thinking that it would be pretty cool to have a shorty AK, but I don't have the dough to buy a complete SBR right now. Instead, I'm considering either getting a Krinkov-style shorty kit and assembling it into a registered SBR down the road, or else getting a completed AK "pistol" now, and getting a tax stamp and stock later on. Any thoughts on which would be the better way to go? Is there any real difference between an SBR and pistol other than the rear trunnion?

If one were to buy, say, an AMD-65 kit from the marketplace here, if it was built as a pistol, it couldn't have the front grip on it, until the SBR stamp arrived. Vertical foregrips on pistols are another tax stamp.

First off, it surprises me to no end that you'd go and register one of your guns with the government.

Second, if you're willing to register and SBR, I'd get the Krink kit. I've shot and AK pistol before, and although its tons and tons of dumb fun, it can't be of much practical use. Trying to aim the thing with no stock makes 25ish yards about your best bet for hitting anything reliably. I figure if anybody could be accurate with the thing, it would be you, so I guess it just depends on what you're looking for.

Krinkov is one of the best weapons. Get that all kit-up and you will be fine.

Well, in the light of day, my sanity has returned, and I've realized that I really don't want to get into the NFA game. So, no SBR for me. Maybe a VZ58 instead...
