My cleaning rod always falls out of my wasr 10 when I shoot. Is there a way to fix this? I bought the gun new. Last time I lost the rod for 2 weeks. I finally found it, and it now has rust on it from being outside. What is the best way to clean the rust off, or should I just try to buy a new cleaning rod?:uhoh:

Gun oil and steel wool, 0000 for the rust. Or get rid of the WASR 10 and buy a bolty:neener:

I would say it's probably either a bent cleaning rod, or a rod with an undersized head. If it's straight, I'd pick up another at a gun show (of comparable length) and try it to see if it stays put better.

A friend of mine had this issue happen to him on one of his AK's. He used a tiny black zip tie as a restraint and it never fell off again.

I had this same problem when I 1st got my WASR. I had to straighten the rod out a bit and then it inserted all the way in. I screwed it all the way in and have the rod's front secured underneath my aftermarket Shark flash hider rear groove. Never has come out again after that.

Can you use an O ring as a rubber band , to hold it in place ?

Use an old bronze bore brush and Hoppies # 9 to clean the rust off .

Then Brownells Oxpho-Blue cold blue . Or paint it .

But , honestly , I would leave the cleaning rod out when shooting it .

God bless
