so, my question is. Can you buy the AKS-74U SBR without the 200 tax if the total over all length is the legal length?

I have searched the net all day tryin to find a place to buy one but I cant can you guys help?

The total length must be 26 inches or more, and the barrel length must 16 inches or more. Just meeting the overall length part of the test isn't sufficient.

Look for one of the AK-103 clones. They are about as close as you can get without the SBR tax.

The $200 tax was intended to be a prohibition against the commoners having these weapons. But if you like the shorty AK, it's not that bad of a deal. I've got an SLR-105 I'd been thinking of doing this to for sometime. I'll probably never get around to it so it's going on the selling block.

thats true. I have thought about the pistol and maybe even just paying the tax cause after all the ak is not that expensive so who knows...thanks..

im going to look into pistol. Is there a company that offers the kit?

Kit?

Like making your own pistol?

There are all kinds of parts and you can make your own pistol... Do you intend on building a pistol yourself?

I'd go check out all of the AK forums pistol sections if you haven't done so already, a lot of information there.

I've done 7.62 pistols from kits (slamfire51 on one of the AK boards did the barrel/piston chop).

Now, a dude by the handle of doubletapme did some outstanding, works of art type things in 5.45. He was too busy to take work a long while back, but I've put aside a tantal kit and a receiver papered as a pistol for when I get to it. One of these days...

whats a good place to get a realible kit thats almost assembled.. I dont know anyhting about putting together the barrel together with the trunnion..or boring the front and rear tunnions or pinning it...i need something thats a liitle more assmbled..

Wait, what? Putting a vertical grip on a pistol makes it an AOW? I've never done that but I didn't know it was against the law...hmm. You learn something new every day.

Yes.. and IIRC in WA State you are only allowed AOW's.. so if true.. that is quite tempting for anyone looking for an NFA item in WA State...

but do not quote me on AOW's being allowed in WA State.. I'm sure someone can post the master list that is floating around regarding NFA items.
