Alaska Gun Laws

Actually I did move..

...from Flagstaff, AZ to Bethel, Nome, and later Atqasuk, AK. The change in climate isnt all that tough to get used to.

If you are going to drive to AK, then I would recomend you purchase a copy of "Mileposts". Essentially a high quality info/travel guide to the Alcan.
It includes sections on the ferry system and canadian gun laws; updated yearly.

I used to live north of Fairbanks, I would reccomend taking a C.W.P cource you will learn the gun laws up there and they help you with the paperwork. More paperwork than washington state. It looks like a drivers licence with your picture on it.you do not need one to carry concealed in Alaska. However if you plan to buy a gun up there you can pick up any gun instantly without going through a waiting period.
It is also a second piece of Goverment issued photo I.D.
I lost my drivers lincese and had to take a plane trip to WA state.
With just a temp drivers license they would not let me on the plane, C.W.P no problem.

Guns and alcohol do not mix they have ZERO TOLERANCE about that!Any beer or booze on breath while operating any firearm is an instant firearms violation ticket if caught.

If you go out in the woods you WILL need a large powerfull riffle and pistol.
Moose are 7 feet to the shoulder weigh 1,500 pounds or more and you treat them if they
are a grizzly bear! Speaking of the Grizzly, the cn get 1,500lbs in the coastal areas,
600-1,000lbs in the interior Alaska.

I moved my guns by having my stuff shipped up by container ship. Flew up on a plane.
Good luck on the move Alaska is beutifull and unforgiving at the same time!

Like I said, if I make the move, it'll be because I've been hired as a State Trooper. Thank you though, I definitely appreciate all the information. :)

Shall inform is the worst part.
I'm on the fence about shall inform laws. Part of me feels that it doesn't matter whether people inform or not, because I'm going to ask on every single routine stop either way, and I'm not going to even try to handle a civilian's firearm unless I've been threatened.

On the other hand, I understand the problem many people have with it. Unfortunately, there are many LEOs who would do well to spend more time with firearms. The problem is, there are many agencies out there who are intentionally not hiring these types of people, because they fear someone who thinks gun=hobby is going to be overzealous on the trigger. Maybe that's a justified fear, and maybe not. This isn't the thread (maybe not even the forum) to discuss it either way.

What positive purpose does a shall inform law serve? Only a person who has no intention of harming the police officer anyway is going to follow the law.

Instead of having laws that cause law abiding citizens grief and possibly cause those otherwise law abiding citizens to get a citation because they honestly forget to inform, or don't know the law exists, we should have laws that punish criminals.

To be honest, I'm not quite sure. Maybe there is no positive purpose behind shall inform laws. Even if that were the case, there are laws I find to be far worse, and without benefit, that I would much sooner put my energy into eliminating.

Frankly though, I'm not interested in changing any laws, and that might sound pretty asinine or apathetic, but it's not. It's just honesty. I'll vote on what I believe, but that's about it, and I've never publicly whined about any law.

Conversely, there's a disturbing number of people on this board who spend a lot of time sharing their frustration at some of America's laws. It's ironic, because to my knowledge, there are only a small number of lawyers on this board, and zero politicians.

Many of us are actively engaged in the American way: Complaining about problems, but not doing anything to change them. Like I said, if I had a problem with shall inform laws, I would actively do something about it. I just want to enforce laws, and interact with people on a personal level.
