I'm starting to get a trip to the arctic circle planned for next June, and was planning on taking a bear gun with me just in case.
I don't want to get into "which gun".. I already have the gun.
My question is:
Has anyone transported a handgun thru Canada? I hear it's very hard to do, but possible. I am camping most of the way, so I'd feel better if I had one on me.
Anyone have experience? Thanks!!

I've tried talking to some gov't folks, all you seem to get is a "yes" followed immediately by a "no".. then they flip around again and leave you with more questions..
I'm just looking for a nice, clear-cut example.

There is a big difference between a long gun and a sidearm in Canada. Generally long guns can be transported, but sidearms, especially those with a barrel less than 6 inches are almost impossible to legally transport through Canada, let alone possess. If you can provide the weapon type, it may be possible to provide some guidance.

The gun I was going to take is a .44 mag 4 inch. Through another site, based on motorcycle adventure touring has led me to believe that it is going to be easier to bring a rifle instead.
I'm just trying to figure out if it would be worth the hassle now.
You guys in Canada have some very restrictive handgun legislation, to say the least.
I now understand why an old Canadian-born buddy of mine was such a gun nut!!

I think it'll be bear spray for me.... And maybe an extra hotel or two....
