In a constant state of confusion.
Greetings everyone. This is my first post so bear with me. I am planning a road trip to Alaska next summer. The route takes me through Canada. I wil be transporting a couple of legal US/CANADA firearms. I looked on the Canadian consulates website and have printed the non resident declaration paperwork out. I understand the paperwork but would like some real world pointers. Where is the fee payed at the border? Also an other strange facts that would keep me safe.

Much Appreciated,

Jon

Just ship them to yourself and save yourself the problems. If they're long guns you can use the USPS.

Kali, as you can probably tell driving thru Canada with firearms is a true pain in the back side. Even if you fill out the paperwork, stop at the border entry, claim your guns, have them inspected it still doesn't mean they will let you in with them. All depends on which border guy you get I'd assume.

That's why most folks ship them to Alaska to a preset place and then claim them when they get back to a free society.

Apparently it's a pain to enter Canada with guns and then the US makes it a pain to reenter US soil.

Take the ferry, it's cheaper even with a room and you can always camp out on deck instead. Leave the weapons in your vehicle, and don't get your vehicle off the ferry in Canada... it's a pain anyway even without guns. You can walk off the ferry during stopovers in Canada and do the tourist thing just fine.

You can take the ferry all the way from Bellingham, WA to Skagway, AK. IIRC you can catch connectors and go even farther, even down the Aleutians. If you want the "driving thru Alaska" experience, get off the ferry in Haines.

I always wanted to do the ALCAN Highway thing, but not interested in driving thru Socialist Hell.
