I'm posting this for a buddy. While in a pawn shop he was looking at rifles with a guy he works with. Turns out that guy had pawned a rifle it was an Albany single shot breach loading rifle. The guy didn't know much about it other than it was his grandfathers gun and was chambered in .357mag. My buddy said the gun was so old the words on the barrel were almost worn away. He wants the rifle so when the pawn ticket runs out he was planning on buying it. He wants to know what its worth and what kind of company was Albany? Anyone have any experience with these rifles?

Albany sounds like a single shot trade rifle that was made by one company and if you ordered a sufficient quanity any name desired would be applied. The rifles are generally low quality made for quick cheap sales. If made during or shortly after the turn of the century (1900-1930) it certainly would not be in 357 mag unless altered to that caliber. Without further info it is all guess work but surely the rifle is in the +\- $100 range. Post photos and any additional information if any kind of an accurate value is desired.

From what I understand the rifle is NOT a break action it has a rear loading gate that you flip down and then insert the round. I'll see if I cant get pictures of the actual rifle sometime.
