I recently had occasion to be speaking to one of our fine West Point Cadets. Naturally the conversation began to steer itself to the topic of firearm and weaponry. So we got to talking about AR's. I asked him about how the 3 round trigger mechanism works and I asked him what the difference was between the way the semi-auto trigger and the mil-spec 3 round cycling trigger work. His explanation of the inner workings lacked rigor but I got enough out of to figure out that he didn't 'really know' either. I told him I had an AR and had become interested in the mechanicals of the rifle. He asked if it was a CAR or a post ban AR. We surmised that it was post-ban and wouldn't recieve the necessary parts to make it like the military grade M4 with selector switch and 3 round burst.
So I figured that I might put that subject to THR. Not that I want to do it for all the headache and lack of any real reason to, but I was just curious what the differences are in the way the semi-auto action of the AR compares to the full auto/burst fire action of the M4/M16.
Thanks
oh, if this material is covered with rigor elsewhere on the forum, let me know..
