BATF-legal Full-Auto Burst GAT Trigger System?

Well, in my young and stupid days I tried all these things for my good old Mini 14. They work exactly as their price would indicate........and hold together just about that long.

They only call it "3 round burst" because you get 3 trigger pulls for one revolution of the hand crank.

Great fun when you're 17  Not so much fun after that.

I'd give my left %&$ to see someone shoot a SPAS 12 with one hand on the grip and the other winding that tiny little crank as fast as they can. Come on, they say you can on the site:D

Yeah it would be hard to control anything other than a rimfire rifle. No chance of hitting anything even if you could control it.

Retro, why not just learn to bump fire your AK.

I bet it would be cool with the modern bullpups...

All/most of these weapons can supposedly be shoulder fired with one hand. Fire it with the one hand, then crank it up with the other:evil:! Since the balance of the weapon is to the rear, I bet it would be reasonably accurate, but still not worth the price. Probably a helluva time if you added it to a tripod mounted, beltfed 1919:what:   !!!!

ATTENTION!

The BATFE has changed it's mind about the Akins Accelerator and now rules it to be an unregistered machinegun. IF you purchased one of these you'd better contact your local law enforcment authority and arrange a means of surrendering it before your door gets kicked in.

I really, really wish I was making this up, but I'm not. Visit http://www.firefaster.com/ for more details. While legal action is pending (and this insanit will hopefully be reversed) according to the current ruling anyone in possession of an Akins device is currently in possession of an illegal machinegun.

No, don't panic. Don't rush to your local police station. It's not time to burn your stocks. Read the site, on the bottom it says

Akins Group Inc. has received no instruction as to the disposition of units in customer hands. Please refrain from public speculation and emotional responses and allow our Attorneys to advocate for everyone's best interests.

To put it simply:

When it comes to anything described as "full auto", "burst", etc. - if it's not on the NFA registry, stay the heck away from it.

Don't screw around with Class III / Title II / NFA stuff unless you KNOW what the laws are. The BATFE exists to get violators, and they get to define the rules. Don't play the wrong side of that game.

Perhaps I was a bit alarmist, but it was my hope to alert those who may not have gotten the news and warn present owners. I really, really, really hope that the Akins folks can fight this in court and win. I've been trying to look up how to send them money for that cause, but right now, as things are, the BATFE says they're machineguns.

Also, I agree with everything you said, ctdonath, except one thing. I no longer believe the BATFE exists to catch violators. I believe it exists to make violators out of law abiding citizens by re-interpretting existing laws to make that which was legal, illegal.

Don't get me wrong, I follow the law to the letter and have corresponded with the ATF and it's NFA branch before to make SURE everything I own or buy is good and legal. However, that's precisely what the Akins folks did... only to have that go-ahead reversed for reasons that make no sense with reference to the law on the books. :barf:

I beg to differ. They're playing stupid games with illogical unconstitutional rules, and the more they bend and twist to outlaw things they don't like, the closer they get to contradicting themselves and knocking the whole house of cards over.

I'm kicking myself for not buying one now, even if they WERE $1,000 each. O.O

Same. I don't even own the rifle it would go on. Wouldn't THAT make an interesting court case.

By "ruling" the Akins Accelerator a machine-gun, they're effectively ruling bump-firing as illegal. Now everyone must register their thumbs.

Then again, the BATFE thugs have ruled a piece of string a machinegun.

Hand cranks are OK though. Which is why Gatling guns are legal. You have to crank it to fire each shot. I guess bump firing is the rifle's recoil making it fire, regardless of the fact that your finger hits the trigger each time.

Reminds me of the Chuck Norris saying "Chuck Norris doesn't do push-ups, he pushes the Earth down"

That's basically what's in effect for the Akins stock. It is the stock pushing the rifle to your finger, not the finger pushing to the rifle. Recoil is generating the physical energy for the trigger depression, not your muscles.

What's next? Force Jerry Miculek to register himself? LMAO!

Our JBT's can always be counted on to provide us with comedy!

To answer the question, the GAT does work, it's a bit of a pain to get installed and might mar your trigger guard, but it does work. It's NOT a 3-round burst device... re-read the ad for it. It's also NOT full-auto. It's hand-operated repeating.

The stock system for the 10/22 WAS a machinegun and still is. The difference between this and bump-firing was that ONE pressure on the trigger caused multiple rounds to fire as a function of the gun. You pull the trigger, do nothing else, and the gun empties. You only pull the trigger once.

Now, bump-firing (and hell-fire triggers, etc.) use the recoil of the rifle to physically move the trigger and trigger finger forward and pulling the trigger is a separate function. Yeah, it's lawyer-speak hair-splitting but it also makes sense from a strict, anal-retentive technical point of view.

Important news from the manufacturer's website:
