Has anyone tried the new Alliant powders Varmint or AR15 for 223 Rem reloading? I wondered how it compared to H335 or RL7 or Varget.

I haven't tried in a .223, but it works great in a couple 22-250's. Here is my post about this powder from February.

"My LGS was out of Hodgon H380 but had some Alliant Varmint powder in stock so I decided to give it a try in my 22-250's. The max listed for Hornady 55 gr. V-Max bullets was 34.7 grs so I loaded 10 each with 33.0 and 34.0 grs for testing. I shot 4 groups of 5 (10 total from both rifles) and was very pleased with the way these rounds peformed in both my Rem. 788 and 700. All 4 groups were under 1 1/2" (both the 34 grs. were under 1"). Not sure if I'm will to give up on H380 quite yet, but I was pleased to find a decent backup powder for the 22-250's. Alliant indicates it is also good for 223, so I will give it a try in these too. For those that it matters, it is also made in the USA."

I bought some Alliant Varmit, it says spherical powder and the load charge Alliant recomends is close to H335. Also bought some Nosler Varmagedden 55 gr HP.

That was the only reloading information I have found on this new powder, I get some loads made up in the morning . I hope I might get to shoot Sunday afternoon.

I sometimes takes awhile for a new powder to get a following. It just happened that my LGS was out of my regular 22-250 powder so I decided to give this a try. Let us know what you think after you give it a try.

I finally got out and shot some new loads this weekend, the Varmint powder is just as good as the H335 I have used maybe better. I had great results with the Nosler 55 gr bt and col 2.255.

Here is a target from my mini 14 with Varmit, I had a 1st shot flier.
