I recently took chl training in TX and completed app for TX non-resident chl. I live in NM, whose chl IS accepted/recognized in TX. Since, mailing the app, I was told TX won't issue non-resident if your resident state chl is reciprocated. Is this true? I found documentation from 2004 that implies that but didn't find any recent info. btw, i called Austin while completing app and was simply told to include a color copy of my NM DL (but, she didn't seem very knowledgeable on the topic of non-residents). I will call again Monday to try to ask someone else but thought someone here might have this info....thanks....

I am no help, but why not just get a NM, or a Florida? They are both good in NM and Texas. My non res florida was easy to get, and NM is not that painful either.

Texas changed its law several years back. It no longer matters if yur home state issues carry licenses as it up thorugh 2005.

If your prints aren't a problem, the most common cause for delay, you should recieve your Texas CHL in about 60 days after Tx DPS received the packet.
