Since I got my FEG (as a beater), I have done almost all of my "fondling" with it. I usually just leave the Browning where it stays for bedtime duty.

I've been fondling the Browning more, since it's so much prettier, and have found that it is VERY difficult for me to get a proper "pointable" grip with the stocks I've got on (my much-loved Butler Creeks). :(

I love the way they look, I love the way the checkering feels, I love that they're black. But they're way too thick.

I need something thinner. However, I don't want them too thin, like some say the Navidrex thin grips are.

I want grips that are:
  • Black.
  • Checkered.
  • Thinner, but still with a minor palm swell.

Anybody have any ideas? I know that the black grips that Craig Spegel made probably fit the bill, but are they still made? (Are they made out of Micarta? I don't remember.)

Please, if any of you have ANY ideas, I'd very much appreciate them.

Thank you. :(
Wes

Have you tried the Hogues?

My MK III had factory Pachmyer grips. Too thick, and had a weird thumb rest type thing on both the right and left hand side.

I love the Hogue grips.

My Crimson Trace lasergrips are slightly thinner than Pachmayrs, and about the same feel (without the humps). They feel pretty good, but that's a lot of money to pay just for the grips.

I've tried a few. I have tried Pachmayrs and Hogues, and while I liked the Hogues, I had different issues with pointability. It's better when the frontstrap is left as-is, and I've gotten along pretty well with the Butler Creek grips for a while now... but that's probably because I haven't done much with them.

So far, the best for pointability are the regular plastic checkered grips that came on some early FNs and Inglis HPs. However the problem I have with them is that the checkering is not sufficient to provide a good grip.

SOMEBODY must make that "perfect" grip for the HP, I just haven't found it yet.

Does anybody know of a website for Navidrex or Ahrends? I've run extensive web searches on both, but no cigar.

I did look on Brownell's website at the Navidrex BHP grips. They say that the Black Micarta grips are available in a palmswell version, but then they don't have a place to order them -- only the thin ones.

*sigh* Maybe it's time to go to bed.

IIRC, Cylinder and Slide grips have a bit of a palm swell to them. Wood grips, though, not black.

You can buy thin black checkered micarta grips from Brownells.

647-035-101 BROWN HP BLACK MICARTA CHECKERED GRIP 1 $49.95

They need a little fitting, but they are thinner than the Spegel grips.

IIRC, Uncle Mikes made a mould of the Spiegal grips and is making them in black resin or rubber.

Yep, those are the ones I have on... they're just too darn thick.

It's looking like I might have to go for those...

a question first: DOES ANYONE KNOW IF SPEGEL STILL MAKES DELRIN GRIPS?

The Navidrex grips are expensive enough that If Spegel Delrins are still made, I'd rather go for them. If not, then maybe I'll get the Navidrex grips.

*grumble, grumble, grumble...*

Hello. I seem to recall that he went ahead and made another run of them a while back or is going to. He has no web address and I don't have his phone number at hand right now. Hopefully, someone who does will post it.

Best.

Thanks for all of your help. :)

I'll be giving Mr. Spegel a call pretty soon to see what can be done.

In an interesting turn of events, I decided to see what the Butler Creek stocks felt like on my FEG. The backstrap of the FEG sticks out father (about 1/8 inch) than my Browning for some reason, and the stocks really feel good due to that. On the FEG the grip doesn't feel square with them on, so I guess they'll stay there. Until then the Browning is wearing the nylon thumbrest grips that it came with.

Thanks again. :D I love THR.
