I read somwhere that a certain type of follower is needed in an aluminum framed gun. Can someone enlighten me? The Novaks that came with my S&W SC, have a different style follower, than what came with my Springfield. I'm wanting to get some flush base mags, for ccw. Thanks for any info:)

You don't need a special follower, you just want to avoid Devel type followers like those used in the McCormick shooting star and power mag. The devel follower can rock foward and mar the frame.

adweisbe is absolutely right about the devel follower found on McCormick mags, Colt 8 round mags. Those are the ones you don't want with an alloy frame.

Some other manufacturers now use a bull nose on the front of devel type followers that prevent the follower from moving forward. You need to see these or ask when ordering over the phone.

Depends on the design of the gun itself. This is a concern if you have a frame with an integral ramp, like the vast majority of steel framed 1911s. If your Al 1911 has a ramped barrel (Springfield does ramped barrels in all their Al-framed guns), then it isn't a worry at all. Yes, you can get a finish mar from the follower, but there isn't a mag follower made that is going to ding up a feed ramp made out of hard barrel steel.
