Hello All,

I bought an AMD-63-2 AK-47 “Arsenal USA” AK-47 early this year at local gun store in Ohio. Came with certificate stating it was built around 7/13/04. I paid $550 for it and 200 rounds of Wolf. The Owner’s Manual states that this rifle is either a……

SSR-85B (Poland) or
SSR-85C (Poland) or
SSR-56 (Bulgaria)

The serial number is aa0511.

It groups nicely at 50 and 100 yards with the 1969 Yugo brass 7.62x39 I brought and so so hot with Wolf hp.

The most info I have found on this AK is this…

I know little to nothing more about it, can you fill me in anything you know about it including…….

- is this SSR-85B, SSR-85C, or SSR-56, and what are the pros and cons of each?

- is this the 1mm or the 1.6mm that I am always reading about?

- were on the food chain does this AK rate? Low, middle, high end? I think it is middle end but interesting in what you think

- did I pay too much for it? From my investigation on the web, I think I got a fair deal

- what is the difference between this AMD-63 AK and AMD-65 mostly see onlilne? The 65 seem to have the shorter barrel, less than 16, and the 63 has the standard 16 inch barrel

- if I decide to get a ultimak http://ultimak.com/buy.htm optics mount, which one should I get? Style 1 or style 2? Will I have to dremel the ventalated metal "forend" any?

- anything else you know about it?

Thanks much for your time!

Pics aren't working, so I can't help much ID what you have. I can pretty definitively state that you have a 1mm stamped receiver, you paid a decent price, that the Arsenal/GT rifles are solid middle-echelon rifles, and that the only difference that I know of between the AMD 63 and 65 is the furniture (63 being a fixed stock and 65 being a side folder) - both should have 16" barrels.

I'm afraid that I don't know much about the Ultimaks.
